Curious if you have also migrated your email and cloud storage from US-based providers (Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox) to European alternatives?

Iโ€™m thinking of launching a newsletter called โ€œIt Works on LLMโ€ฆ Never Mind, Now It Doesnโ€™tโ€. Subscribe now for exclusive updates on features that function just long enough to gaslight you into thinking youโ€™re the problem.

Nobody Knows How To Build With AI Yet The future of software development might just be jazz. Everyone improvising. Nobody following the sheet music.

โ€œWe're all junior developers again. But not junior in the traditional sense, where senior is waiting after enough years pass. We're junior in a permanent sense, where the technology evolves faster than expertise can accumulate.โ€

I think the core idea is to rely on as little software as possible, isnโ€™t it? Hardware has reached an impressive level today, but software, well, software is all over the place.

I bet! The industry and market have changed a lot, so Iโ€™m sure you all are doing great. Always happy to talk shop, feel free to DM me and we can set something up.

Man, this had nothing to do with AI, it was just a basic security flaw. They got into the admin panel using easily guessable credentials, and to make matters worse, the system used incremental user IDs, making it super easy to access other peopleโ€™s info. Bad design. The title is pure clickbait.

Iโ€™m afraid these tools have become little more than delivery mechanisms (Dev Mode, cough cough). Instead of fostering true collaboration that challenges the solution or makes it more robust, they offload responsibility to someone else, with the mindset of โ€œtheyโ€™ll figure it out when they build it.โ€

09.07.2025 15:59 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

But when you build something for real, you canโ€™t hide from complexity. You canโ€™t mock or fake the data just to make it look good. Real data is like gravity. It either holds everything together or exposes how flimsy your solution it really is.

09.07.2025 15:59 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

In a way, weโ€™re outsourcing the hard work of solving complexity. With design tools, collapsing the functional layer into the visual one, mistaking what looks good for what actually works. Creating the illusion that the problem has been solved, when in reality, it hasnโ€™t even been touched.

09.07.2025 15:59 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The blandness of most products comes from that pressure. Just look at the GenAI landscape, same pricing, same business models, 99% of the same UX patterns. Everyoneโ€™s copying each other, assuming someone else got it right. I could be wrong, but it certainly feels that way from the outside.

09.07.2025 15:59 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I think there are multiple factors at play, tools are part of it, but so are competition, the race to capture market share, and a lack of imagination, likely driven by impossible deadlines and relentless pressure of late-stage capitalism.

That said, as messy and hard as it was, it was just as rewarding. I miss it a lot.

09.07.2025 13:51 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Maybe we were just early, but even now, Iโ€™m not sure that model scales easily. It takes a lot of alignment, and you need exceptional people who are not only great at what they do but willing to collaborate deeply across the entire stack.

09.07.2025 13:51 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Scaling that model was tough. Finding the right talent was hard, and as we grew, clients started expecting a one-stop shop. Handoffs got messy, and most developers werenโ€™t used to our design-through-code approach. It mostly worked well with early-stage startups, but got trickier beyond that.

My partner and I spent over a decade running a design agency that approached design through code. We used Sketch and Figma more like whiteboards, our real work happened in the browser, building prototypes and full front-end products for our clients.

Update: I got my hopes up too soon. While the fixed worked locally, it broke production and further attempts by the AI agent to fix it ended up down red herring rabbit holes and used up all my โ€œpremium requestโ€ credits for the monthโ€ฆ in a single night. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

being too ambitious is a clever form of self-sabotage on starting, doing, being, and becoming.

On The Death of Daydreaming What we lose when phones take away boredom and interstitial time

โ€œWe enjoy the efficiencies and distractions technology brings, but they leave us less skilled at patience. They teach us to value efficiency above all and to be suspicious of idle time, when we should see idle moments as opportunities for reflection and renewal.โ€

Imagine a calculator where the output of one calculation isnโ€™t automatically feed into the input of another calculation. You would need to remember the output then retype it in a new calculation every time. Thatโ€™s the reality of the application-based computing paradigm we have todayโ€ฆ
