when reading a site, do you like reading as markdown (no or minimal styling/reader mode) or keeping the design of the original?

i assume most people would want to keep the site's design, it's form/colors/etc if it's a blog or page you like, so more wayback machine than reader mode

lol this is kind of a weird feature but it's super cool?! if you select a text you think *may* be the name of an arena channel it attempts to find it and then re-link it for next time

a lot of people have thought “there should be an atproto @are.na”, and i think it would be cool if arena one day integrated with the protocol, but it’s interesting cause i think any attempt to “clone” arena would fail miserably — the people and culture of it is so distinct and uncopyable imo

i had to find the old recording from last year and recover both the audio and the gps, but added support for custom "saunters" a while back

basically the site is just a UI, there's no server if you have a url to the audio + geojson + bsky thread for annotations

i want to run a simple db + api endpoint for links, listen for a new lexicon, maybe add a search indexer for urls (map url -> list of bsky posts), doesn't need to be as big as bsky opensearch since it wouldn't need to have full text search

not the same thing, but my extension augments a page with comments for bsky + been thinking about arena for linking, wasn't sure to just use arena api itself (in this case) or remake on atproto so went with showing the arena data, but interested to hear more or chat bsky.app/profile/henr...

for example, "the end user" text links to the arena channel called "the end user" (www.are.na/channels/the...)

a combo of extension + arena: this augments a page with automatic wikipedia-like blue links to any Arena channel if the text is contained there

Separately on the issue of receipt paper, there are bpa/bps/phenol free paper alternatives too

Using esc/pos to send messages so any variation of them would work, can find a lot of them on eBay so it’s relatively cheap. Things to look out for: compactness/size, weight, connectivity (Ethernet, usb, wifi, Bluetooth), and for me speed!

ultimately it takes what was intended for the transactional and makes it personal, as a new medium for friendship

more importantly for me, it brings back physicality to the digital (whether an photo, someone's blog, a meme, llm text)

so when this small thing is fast, simple, cheap.. it's a joy to use

i also expect them to be buggy, hard to use, expensive, annoying to setup, maintain

i expect printers to be slow (other than a laser printer)

good question! imo they should all be able to handle bpa/bps free paper! in particular, i'm using an epson (tm-m30/m50) which i got from ebay
