Schitt's Creek was the first show that really made me laugh again after my brother died. It made me remember that the world could still be beautiful and hilarious even though life felt so hard and sad.

What a treasure. What a loss.

How do you get to a Trump?

Too much spending on armies. Not enough investment in industry, trade, healthcare, affordable housing, public schools, courts, judges, universities, roads, bridges, etc.

Liberalism is nice until the public has no nice things. Then everyone gets cranky.

Doing Lat Am history homework about the new post-revolution republics. Vast wealth disparities + lack of funds for investments in infrastructure and public institutions led to more conservative states run by populist strongmen propped up by personal armies and patronage/spoils systems.

High Art – Speed Art Museum

It is a travesty that I can't go see High Art at Speed Cinema today to reactivate my fin de siècle crush on Ally Sheedy, but hey Louisville: you should go see it.

Yes! I'm fairly certain I was introduced to this at 18 or 19 by an art major managing the film collection in the basement of the college library.

I'm pretty sure I still have this in my small and ancient box of DVDs. Might go hunting for it later.

The combination of lifting a heavy shovelful of wet snow, carrying it 10-15 feet, and the twisting swing to dump it on top of the snow berms I was steadily building higher. Makes sense.

Yesterday, after shoveling snow for the fourth day in a row, my knees were what hurt most. Twenty-four hours later, what hurts most is my ribs (or diaphragm?). Bodies are weird.

REVOLUTIONARY LETTER #14

are you prepared
to hide someone in your home indefinitely
say, two to six weeks, you going out
for food, etc.. so he never
hits the street, to keep your friends away
coolly, so they ask no questions, to nurse
him, or her, as necessary, to know
'first aid' and healing (not to freak out
at the sight of torn or half-cooked flesh)
to pass him on at the right time to the next
station, to cross the canadian border, with a child
so that the three of you
look like one family, no questions asked,
or fewer, to stash letters, guns, or bombs
forget about them
till they are called for. to KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT
not to trust '
even your truelove, that is,
lay no more knowledge on him than he needs
to do his part of it, a kindness
we all must extend to each other in this game
