Located in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, this scenic lighthouse stands on Au Sable Point, 12 miles west of Grand Marais, Michigan. Built in 1873–74, the 86-foot tower extends 23 feet underground. It’s part of a full light station with buildings from the 1890s.

The Kestner Homestead in Olympic National Park’s Quinault Rain Forest was established in 1891 under the Homestead Act. Despite an early flood, the Kestner family cleared land, planted an orchard, and built structures. Later home to the Higleys, it's now preserved by the NPS.
