San Luis Obispo County introduces new tech for upcoming elections With the large number of vote-by-mail ballots it receives, the SLO County Elections Office is adding new technology to its ballot counting process.

Check out these stories about the tech that will change elections in SLO County beginning with the June 2026 primary. We're excited to improve processes for our voters -- both at the polls and while counting and sharing results.

The Clerk-Recorder's Office joined forces with a few other County departments last week to help with a fun little video series that highlights the love to be found at SLO County Animal Services.

We'll share each of the four parts with you, beginning with this one: "They Meet." 🐾

We're excited to share that we've acquired an important new piece of equipment in the Elections Center -- one that will make processing Vote-by-Mail ballots faster and more efficient.

These dates are some of the key milestones on the road to the June 2026 ballot:

February 4 - Sigs-in-lieu deadline
February 9 - Nomination period begins
March 6 - Nomination period closes
March 11 - Nomination extension deadline
March 26 - Certified list of candidates posted

This honor celebrates that 15 percent of our election workforce are veterans and military family members who continue to serve by stepping up as poll workers and election officials. 👏

It's Help America Vote Day today, and we were marking it by making supplies lists for the June 2, 2026, Statewide Direct Primary Election. Then we realized that we weren't the only ones who could use today to help America (or SLO County) vote!

Given the anticipated high public attendance at the scheduled meeting in the Board of Supervisors Chambers tomorrow, January 27, we are advising anyone in need of Clerk-Recorder/Elections services to consider postponing a potential visit to our office until the following day.

Another evening, another great opportunity to connect with the community.

CP’s Women in Politics club invited the Clerk-Recorder to speak about her path and her perspective as an elected local official. It was exciting to see the enthusiasm for careers that integrate public service!

One of the highlights of 2025 was the establishment of our Student Elections Ambassador Program, and the first group of ambassadors continues to impress and inspire us - including Aesa from Morro Bay High School, who was in this morning to interview the Clerk-Recorder and update us on his projects.

We love visitors of all ages, and some of our youngest community members stimulate the most thought-provoking conversations (how *do* you protect against Election Center infiltration by well-equipped ninjas?). In all seriousness, these boys brought curiosity and a great focus on community service.

SUCH a great visit and conversation with the Leadership North County group this morning. Nothing beats talking through the nuts and bolts of elections, which are remarkably complex. And this group had fantastic questions! Hopefully they feel more informed and empowered to talk about local elections.
