Wow, this one hits kinda hard, ngl. I remember following him on twitter back before normal people used that website.

There were two scandals: he allegedly threw a stolen laptop out of the window at Florida, and then once he went to Auburn, there were allegations that his dad solicited hundreds of thousands to secure his commitment, which was against the rules. A silly thing to be mad about these days, but yeah.

One thing I’ve learned since transition is that now matter how woke a guy is, there’s often a fundamental block in their ability to recall, surface, and condemn misogynistic behavior in other men *unprompted*. The best of the best typically need *prompting*. You can’t trust them to handle it alone.

No, I’m talking about their genuine, actual beliefs, not the things they claim to support. Look at what they do in power, not what they campaign on. The actual democratic program is a more competent and humanely managed version of your boss and landlord.

People respond well to sincerity and authenticity, which is NOT the same thing as telling the truth, or honesty (see, eg, 45-47). The reason why people like me, a relatively politically uneducated 20-something, responded so strongly to Bernie ‘15 was that he believed in things, and it was palpable.

I don’t think a lot of democrats who think like this grasp how incredibly weird and repulsive it is to publicly confess “I don’t actually have any sincere beliefs. Everything, including my identity, is a story that I’m constantly rewriting to market myself to imaginary voters”.

My pet theory for why democrats do this is because their genuine, actual beliefs are deeply unpopular, especially with their own base, so they’re constantly searching for a new con or angle to sell their pile of shit to the next mark.
