“I don’t know if this is going to work,” Izzy grumbles, mostly to himself, it a little late in proceedings to actually change anything, not that he thinks he would’ve had much luck in trying to persuade Edward to change his plan if he had the opportunity to say anything earlier. Once an idea got stuck in Edward’s head, it was there until either he’d followed through on it, or a more interesting one replaced it, and Izzy has never been that good at coming up with interesting ideas. Edward’s idea this time was launching himself from their ship to the one they were boarding. He’d ruled out explosives - for the time being, at least, he was working with some of the boys on getting things more controlled in that department and was open to the idea in the future when he was reasonably certain he wouldn’t be a casualty - but had settled on an assisted running leap. They’d practiced a bit, sending Edward into the ocean to gauge how far he could be flung with Izzy’s help so they knew how close the ships had to be for Edward to successfully make it to the other one, and on to the deck so Edward could stick his landing, but practice was different than the real deal, where things were moving and tensions where high, where Edward was being flung onto a vessel full of men with swords and guns and a vested interest in not being boarded. “Of course it will work,” Edward assures with an easy smile, clapping Izzy on the shoulder, “When has this shit gone wrong before?”

Izzy doesn’t point out that it only has to go wrong once for the growing legend of Blackbeard to quickly become nothing more than a drunkard’s fond tale of some nameless twat who tried to jump from ship to ship and drowned or landed on a sword for his trouble, mostly because he doesn’t have the time to. Their ship is rapidly gaining on their target, and he and Edward are both occupied with barking orders to get everything into position. After a few warning shots and some damage taken by both sides, the ships are aligned, just too far to for a board to reach, and neither side appearing to have grapples readied. The ships bob in the sea as the target tries to maneuver away but Blackbeard’s vessel doesn’t allow them an inch, and Izzy tucks himself out of sight near the point where the ships are closest. At his signal, Edward starts his rush toward the edge of the deck. “You’re being boarded by Captain Blackbeard,” Edward shouts, voice booming over the sound of his boots pounding against the wood until he is nearly at the rail. He steps onto Izzy’s waiting palms, and Izzy lifts him upward, heaving him into the sky and overboard, toward the other ship. It seems the whole of the enemy crew have paused to watch as Blackbeard leaps inhumanly far, in shock as he lands on their deck with flourish, brandishing his sword.

“Surrender now and you won’t have to suffer for long!” Edward continues, the pause from their target just long enough that his own crew was able to close the last of the gap and set a board between the ships, his men rushing over to join him. It’s brilliant. It’s beautiful. It makes Izzy want to kill Edward for being so reckless, but he’ll settle for pushing his sword through anyone stupid enough to get too close the same as he had pushed Edward through the air instead.
