29.07.2025 16:02 โ ๐ 13 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I did a pilot for it as a single chapter of Knowing Pain. But otherwise, no. I held it all back for the book. Hopefully out early next year.

08.06.2025 02:39 โ ๐ 16 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Perseus and the internet archive down at the same time is just a bit much right now.
06.06.2025 15:25 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Honestly, for how long has OUP been phoning it in, trading on its name? I haven't heard anything particularly positive in years.
03.06.2025 16:28 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I rather enjoyed the Magic Whip. And considering the live appeal, they'd have to be ruled into the reckoning. Honestly, from my distant vantage I wasn't aware Suede were still doing anything. My algorithm keeps serving me Kula Shaker and Supergrass.
30.05.2025 18:54 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Blur (with bonus of consistent line-up)? The last two albums were better in most respects than the hyped stuff from pre-95.

It's been a while, but I reman fond of the writing process when it requires pen and ink.
15.05.2025 11:19 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1It's incomplete, but I've printed the first draft because I just can't see it on the screen anymore.
13.05.2025 11:17 โ ๐ 10 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Really incredible story unraveling in this thread, where Amazon and other sites have seemingly been able to sell an academic textbook that was withdrawn in 2021 and never actually printed or published, without the knowledge of the press, editors or contributors. Something has gone deeply wrong!
12.05.2025 21:17 โ ๐ 2889 ๐ 1351 ๐ฌ 37 ๐ 83I made it look like this very quickly in picture editor. It's mostly legible, I think. You could do it to the full size copy.
13.05.2025 05:26 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I remember being interviewed for a job at Newcastle where I faced this question after my presentation: "Do historians of science have conferences and societies and stuff? 'Cos, I mean, you hear tell of historians of science, but you never actually meet one".
12.05.2025 18:31 โ ๐ 13 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0at least you did find it. I've given up on Sydenham. I can't find a single reference to it that cites a source, and the one cited on Wikipedia was incorrect, so I deleted it. I found a cluster of similar quotes from around 1930 that suggest this date as possible origin point.
09.05.2025 10:40 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I can infinite references to Thos Sydenham having said "The arrival of a good clown exercises a more beneficial influence upon the health of a town [or village, or city] than of twenty asses laden with drugs", but nowhere can I find where he actually said anything of the sort. I hate made up quotes.

Just finished @boddice.bsky.social and Mark Smith's excellent Emotion, Sense, Experience. Wonderfully illuminates how densely collapsed concepts of emotions are in historiography & neuroscience. Powerfully indicates how we might unpack the vast expanses of meaning in human affective experience.
