We believe it is important to appeal anyway because appeal signals disagreement with the actions and it highlights the grantee is respectfully following procedures and responding with language that is clear and grounded in procedural fairness, while citing compliance and fairness principles.

We've added a Sample Appeal Template that you can use to assist in writing your appeal, based on your grant cycle. Currently we have two versions: FY24 and FY25. If your grant period began earlier, please reach out to us.

If you received a Termination Notice, you can submit a final payment request by June 30 for incurred allowable project-related costs AND submit an appeal.

If you received a Withdrawn Funding notice, you are only able to appeal the withdrawal.

We will share a sample appeal template early next week.

NEA Grantees with Terminated Grants or Withdrawn Funding: You have 7 calendar days to appeal, so for those receiving their letters late yesterday (May 2), you have until Friday, May 9 to appeal.
