As it turns out– which I discussed quite a bit on FBOL– the literature they assign you in high school isn't bad, you're just 15 and don't know the crushing weight of your own soul
09.12.2025 18:51 — 👍 113 🔁 15 💬 7 📌 4The trend precedes this but in the 90s when every sitcom started depicting marriage as a relationship between a hypercompetent, long-suffering, overburdened woman and the overgrown manchild whose antics she has to sighingly indulge … that probably wasn’t great.

they all have this picture in their head of the kind of All-American Guy Circa 1980 they believe themselves to be, and they’re invested in preserving that self-image and the power & respect it’s supposed to confer on them
now I also can’t do a pull-up, and I don’t believe doing a pull-up is a universal measure of health, and I certainly don’t believe your job or rights or how you are treated in society should be tied to how many push-ups you can do; but the hypocrisy of this still makes me want to scream

(But, alas, we never do.)
I think sort of in the spirit of how advent calendars are great all year because we always are sustained by small treats, I like the idea of giving myself a little end of the month NYE ritual with like idk a glass of champagne or lighting a candle or a piece of really good chocolate or SOMETHING
09.12.2025 08:55 — 👍 110 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I kind of love this idea tbh
like set something really small and manageable, and you only have to do it for a month, and then at the end you get to both look back at how you did and look forward to the next month which is a blank slate so it's okay if you didn't score 100%, you're starting fresh
on today's episode of "Claire's Therapist Is Everyone's Therapist," we were talking about how I always love "the new year is coming, I'm going to Fix Myself" energy but can never sustain a resolution
she suggested treating the last day of every month as a mini New Year's with one small new goal
