What I'm saying is that this 37% group can be *defeated*, but there is zero historical reason to believe that it can be *won over*.

the realest friendships in my life are the ones where I can tell a story which begins “the funniest thing happened at my mother’s funeral” and know that they will absolutely Get It

Will Arnett was on Conan and told a story about how Conan dealt with the death of his parents by accusing Jason Bateman of killing them. It’s so funny.

“what radicalized you”

realizing both Colonel Brandon and Mrs. Dashwood are like MY AGE yet he never once considers her as a romantic prospect and zeroes right in on her college age daughter

it hits different when you’re in the Marianne age bracket yourself and Alan Rickman is dreamy as hell

As it turns out– which I discussed quite a bit on FBOL– the literature they assign you in high school isn't bad, you're just 15 and don't know the crushing weight of your own soul

The trend precedes this but in the 90s when every sitcom started depicting marriage as a relationship between a hypercompetent, long-suffering, overburdened woman and the overgrown manchild whose antics she has to sighingly indulge … that probably wasn’t great.

This sent me to Linda Fiorentino’s Wikipedia page. I was always intrigued by what happened to her career and remembered her reputation as being “difficult”. Reading it, I see where some of the “difficulties” may have stemmed from.

the staged pull-up is like the fake tanner

they all have this picture in their head of the kind of All-American Guy Circa 1980 they believe themselves to be, and they’re invested in preserving that self-image and the power & respect it’s supposed to confer on them

now I also can’t do a pull-up, and I don’t believe doing a pull-up is a universal measure of health, and I certainly don’t believe your job or rights or how you are treated in society should be tied to how many push-ups you can do; but the hypocrisy of this still makes me want to scream

this perfectly captures this entire administration’s “the emperor has no clothes” energy

we are all expected to pretend this man is the King of Health, and he himself believes it, which is why he confidently in front of witnesses attempted a thing he cannot do, knowing they will all say that he did

yes exactly, it lets you sort of be responsive to the shifts of your life, and sort of look at it each month like “okay what feels right to me to focus on next month, where am I really feeling prompted to push myself a little”

OMG AMAZING love this for both of us

but saying like, "okay, my March goal is to get at least one section of boxes unpacked in the back room," or "my August goal is to go to a farmer's market once a week," or "my January goal is to get my taxes done super early and set up a better system for next year's taxes," all feel achievable

exactly! every December 31st I'm like "tomorrow I magically become a New Person who somehow suddenly will have the ability to effortlessly make and stick to long-term plans, a thing that has never been true before once in my ADHD-ass life," and then by like February 7th I'm like "well I'm garbage"

09.12.2025 09:45 — 👍 13    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

EXACT SAME

because also then they can evolve?? like I might make a list of things I want to attempt, but then you can leave yourself some flexibility to respond to circumstances or where your health and energy is. idk now how I'll be feeling in June about July goals!

the song "Dream a Little Dream of Me" is stiff competition, but I'm going with "Death & Taxes" by Dorothy Parker which has one of my faves in it:

THE FLAW IN PAGANISM
Drink and dance and laugh and lie,
Love, the reeling midnight through,
For tomorrow we shall die!
(But, alas, we never do.)

I think sort of in the spirit of how advent calendars are great all year because we always are sustained by small treats, I like the idea of giving myself a little end of the month NYE ritual with like idk a glass of champagne or lighting a candle or a piece of really good chocolate or SOMETHING

09.12.2025 08:55 — 👍 110    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

I kind of love this idea tbh

like set something really small and manageable, and you only have to do it for a month, and then at the end you get to both look back at how you did and look forward to the next month which is a blank slate so it's okay if you didn't score 100%, you're starting fresh

on today's episode of "Claire's Therapist Is Everyone's Therapist," we were talking about how I always love "the new year is coming, I'm going to Fix Myself" energy but can never sustain a resolution

she suggested treating the last day of every month as a mini New Year's with one small new goal
