London summers: Wildfires and scorched earth The capital's parks and open spaces remain tinder dry and the wildfire threat is still very real.

There have been 64 wildfires in London this summer, a huge jump from 2020. And London’s parks and open spaces remain tinder dry.

City Hall is investing in the London Fire Brigade to tackle this growing challenge, but everyone can play their part.

London mayor calls for joint effort to combat rising wildfire risk As wildfires increase in London, Mayor Sadiq Khan is calling for collective action to combat the growing threat and ensure the capital is prepared for extreme heat and climate change.

Thanks to record funding from the City Hall, the LFB has invested in enhanced training and new equipment to tackle wildfires, including:

🔴Drones to map fire spread in real time
🔴Specialised hoses that create a 2m-high curtain of water
🔴Off-road 4x4 wildfire response vehicles

Southwark Borough observed the national two-minute silence to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. This was carried out across the fire stations as well as a wreath laying ceremony in Camberwell Green.

The building's ducting was destroyed by the fire.
