Performatively reading in the cafe, but wearing white gloves so I'm still venerating the Book As Object, with a t-shirt saying "I know archivists don't wear gloves" so people know the gloves are performative.

What do you think th really bad ones are?

The wood elves, the dwarves (definitely). The halberdiers probably go here too.

In the middle are orcs (although that might be personal taste), dark elves and chaos warriors (inferior hero quest models)

The high elves and goblins are pretty good.

I wonder if they also wanted the monopose because you didnt need ANY skill to assemble them- rather than making a 10 man version of the old 36 model boxes for 40k- In terms of quality it was a big step backwards but no glue needed.

look of those models. Even if you went back to having pewter imperial guard. Maybe they made the pushfit models for the starter set and they wanted everything to match that?

in wfb i wonder if it was about making everything seem in line- so everything got 1 standard plastic monopose (repurposed from Battle Masters in some cases?) box amd that created a unified product line.

Its harder to fathom in 40k with preexisting plastic. Maybe they liked the chunkier imposing

the skeleton army kit survived all the way through 4th/5th, god love it, but why they ditched those old ork sprues for the monopose Goffs....I wonder if it made the game seem more accessible and friendly? Be great to investigate....

This is an interesting on the current "unfair competition" scandal- people assuming it's the unfair competition you get in US law but its different in Europe.

Its only unfair competition if its from the unfair competition region of France. Otherwise its just sparkling copyright infringement.

100% . I am of the opinion that the 90s represented a massive dip in quality in exchange for having models you could acquire easily and cheaply enough to field an army.

A fun fact about these guys- the bare heads had ears that tessellated with other versions of itself so you could make a really mean looking two headed skaven.

From 1970? Are we going to find out you've got some sort of immortal vampire thing going on?

Are these Carl Critchlow Space Marine designs actually the best space marine designs?

According to Thrud the Barbarian marines actually eat quite a lot of fibre.

Ive just realised that some people are saying some of these are meant to be female heads and my reaction was to tell them they'd be prettier if they smiled.

People say it would be the terrifying theocracy and threat of horrifying violence that would make living in the 40k universe bad, but i think it would the awful headaches you'd get from holding this much tension in your brow and jaw.

What's so weird about this is that Boy shows us Dahl had loads of friends, was always up to stuff with his mates, but chose to never write about children living like that, or even being able to live like that as a happy ending.

Matilda's cruelty feels okay because she has a community to protect of people weaker than herself to protect. Most other Dahl protagonists are the weakest (although clever) people in the story. BFG/Giant Peach are about other children in abstract. Matilda is "this is for you Bruce Bogtrotter!"

What always interested me about Matilda is that its one of the few Dahl books that suggest children have community.Matilda is cruel to save her friends. Most other Dahl books are like "i see youre incredibly lonely- do you know who can solve that? Some weird old man with cursed vibes.Or a centipede

The pride when a student tells you she has based her D&D character on you followed by her explaining that "he is a grumpy old man."

The explanation of how someone became a werewolf seemed dangerously achievable. If I'd come across a puddle of water in a wolf's footprint I'd have drunk out of it instantly.

This one. It was the superior child "history of the supernatural" book. It focused on the more corporeal monsters that scared me the most and the fact that it was a "pocket guide" implied that it was designed to be carried and flicked through for advice during a werewolf, vampire or demon attack.
