once things dial in, the pumps are a godsend and wonderful. they help so much. and the nurses where i used to work said you can even swim with them on. huskitty (hubby) has the tandem and we prefer that kind as it has the onscreen interface

as the spouse of someone one on a pump, you're going to have more crashes while its getting dialed in and properly adjusted. keep some snack cookies and soda near for crashes, and if needed, the tubes of cake/cookie icing cause they taste better than oral glucose. the grape glucose tabs also rock.
