With the squad he had, finishing 17th is arguably the biggest underachievement of any Premier League team.

Should have easily got top 8 and would have done with a semi competent manager.

17th with that squad, he was very lucky to get the chance to manage them in the final.

They will probably sell Garnacho, Antony, Rashford, Sancho and maybe Mainoo this summer, which will raise some decent cash. More importantly for them for FFP purposes it is a lot of pure profit from the academy graduates.

8 of their last 10 were against teams in the bottom half of the table and the two top half teams they played finished 8th and 9th.

They didn’t play anyone from 1st to 7th in that run so not sure it says too much apart from they stopped the rot.

My feeling based on nothing is that Liverpool are trying to finalise a few outgoings as well as Wirtz/Kerkez to not weaken their negotiating position at either end.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Nunez, Elliott and Tsimikas are deals been worked on currently to get them finalised at a similar time.
