At the regular Council meeting this morning, during public comment, Tyler Fellini of @jwjpdx.bsky.social noted that the Mayor suggested that the 1/31 teargassing of Portlanders by the feds at the ICE Out Labor Rally was justified by the actions of a few. It was completely unjustified.
As a councilor who’s gotten lots of death threats, these particular protestors are annoying but mostly harmless.
To me the line gets crossed when they try to break into offices where my staff are (which happened) bc I want my team to be safe at work. Threats to them are a no go, I love those people
🚨🚨🚨Video captures a DHS employee break the window at the Eugene Oregon Fed Building.
They declared a riot and tear gassed everyone over it.
I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.
Vastly underreported angle to Sameer Kanal as Council President --- the guy used to run model U.N. conferences. He quite literally understands the importance of bringing together diverse perspectives to overcome contentious issues.
Both agencies work together often, not much of a difference
EMERGENCY MOBILIZATION: ICE just shot 2 people in Portland. Come to a vigil tonight 6pm at Portland City Hall
ICE needs to be taken apart, brick by brick, and we need to salt the earth.
Update: Council will reconvene around 3:40pm.
City officials are in a briefing right now with police chief Bob Day and police union president Aaron Schmautz.
A group of anti-ICE protestors yelled “revoke the permit” at Police Chief Bob Day as he entered 25 mins ago. (There is no threat to City Hall and this is likely unrelated, just a scene.)
I have heard similar unconfirmed rumors, will wait for clarity for sure
lot of cops cars out there?
Portland city council was abruptly recessed moments ago and councilors are now in a meeting. High tensions but no one is talking in an official capacity at the moment. Will keep you posted.
NEWS: In a heartbreaking video, after ICE shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis, a woman who was in the same SUV cries out: “They killed my wife. I don’t know what to do."
“We stopped to videotape, and they shot her in the head,” the distraught woman sobs.

Absolutely, we saw a preview with the Zohran race and how many democrats distanced themselves. But you can also still see a hesitation on the part of Zohran and NYC DSA to fully break away
@portlanddsa.bsky.social has an electoral working group and democracy commission dedicated to exactly this! This is being put together as we tweet, join DSA and help bring it together!

I think it’s honestly disgusting and deeply unserious that the Revoke the Permit people have clipped videos of my women colleagues eating pizza at the dais as some kind of shaming tool, which is now being used by right-wing media to harass them in misogynistic ways. Congrats everyone.
Gresham's new East County Library is incredible! It's no branch library, but a flagship like Central Library downtown. It's credited to Portland's Holst Architecture, but the design came equally (or more) from Ghanaian-Brit starchitect David Adjaye (who was dropped before construction). WOW.
what this guy said
Hey @councilordanryan.bsky.social are you gonna call the AG a Nazi too, you fucking idiot?
Disagreement on policy is welcome and reasonable, but calling me a Nazi for cosponsoring an ordinance to ban price-fixing is completely unacceptable. Councilor Ryan edited his post, but did not disclose the edit and explain the nature of the substantive change, so it’s here for posterity.
Pass some version of the @pdxrenterpower.bsky.social Renter Bill of Rights!! Bare minimum lower relo to 5% please!
Time for a Renters Bill of Rights, not mass arrests and further criminalization of those in poverty.
“Mayor Wilson’s decision to unleash the police on our most vulnerable neighbors on the very day they lose their food assistance is an act of stunning inhumanity[.]”
