I do think life needs to have a number of healthy challenges, though. With challenge can come plenty of growing pains, but again, the "pain" is a byproduct of the experience, not the point. The "pain" is just the temporary dissonance that comes from one's habits being at odds with one's ideals.

Depends on what you mean by "necessary." Suffering is like physical pain. Pain tells us that something is damaging to the body. It's a warning system. In that sense, suffering is helpful because it tells us when change needs to happen. But the virtue isn't in the suffering itself.

The Pando Aspen Grove. The largest organism on Earth. Estimated to be 80,000 years old. These trees are connected by an underground root system. As the trees die new ones are sent up, ensuring the root system survives. Today for the first time ever it is endangered. Local farmers have allowed their goats and other livestock to graze in this forest. The livestock eat the young saplings which inhibits Pando from replacing it's dying trees. If not stopped Pando will slowly die out after 80,000 healthy years.

Occasionally, I discover a random fact that could birth a decent metaphor or story.

Today's fact for my writer friends: The largest organism on Earth is Pando, an 80,000-yr-old, 106-acre, Aspen grove connected by a single root system. Each tree is unique, yet a clone.

Writing about Plotinus at the moment, I'm again reminded that his Greek word for "create" — *poein* — is the word that gives us our "poem." And how he says Nature is silent, and creative, and playful, and meditative.

And it makes me sense that silent, creative, natural, play is what meditation is.

Witch Tip: Don't sleep on occult art! While we, as a community, tend to prioritize the written word as a means to transmit knowledge, there are other, equally effective methods. Visual arts, music, performance, and more can teach you just as much as books can!

A Full Moon is always a Sun/Moon opposition, a New Moon is always a Sun/Moon conjunction, the Quarter Moons square the Sun, etc.

The reason why we have Moon phases at all is because of the angular relationship between the Sun and the Moon. And astrology is the study of those relationships...

If you observe the phases of the Moon in your practice, you're already doing a form of astrological magick! Underpining the philosophy of astrology is the idea that the position of the planetary bodies either reflect and/or influence our lives on Earth, and the Moon is part of that.
