A welcome, if belated, awakening to the disconnect between Musk's actions and the stated values of the Royal Society?

๐ŸŒNew Paper Alert๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ

Our paper "A recent interruption in the 6-year oscillation in length-of-day" is finally out in #GJI @rasjournals.bsky.social.

Did you know that the length of a day changes every day?
We use this information to look at Earth's core.

Exceptional research leaders awarded first Royal Society Faraday Discovery Fellowships | Royal Society Seven pioneering researchers have been announced as the first recipients.

Must admit I'm a bit sad that the Royal Society consider their fellows to be "mid career". Kudos to these amazing people, but what hope for the rest of us in obtaining these "mid career" fellowships..

So there has been a lot of back and forth about this. I think there are two potential issues here: 1. The increased bureaucratization of HE, and 2. Senior management led "initiatives".

An open letter to the President of the Royal Society โ€“ time to stand up for your values | Reciprocal Space

My profound thanks to all 3494 members of the scientific community who signed my open letter calling on the Royal Society to stand up for its values in respect of concerns raised by the statements and actions of one of its fellows, Elon Musk. occamstypewriter.org/scurry/2025/... 1/2

I will keep the letter open until 3rd March, the date of the meeting called by the Royal Society to discuss principles around the public pronouncements and behaviours of its fellows.

So one more week to add your voice to the call for the RS to stand up for its values.
