A top-down view of a spiral galaxy, showing its brightly shining centre, its broad spiral arms and the faint halo around its disc, as well as distant galaxies and stars on a dark background. Large blue clouds of gas speckled with small stars and strands of dark dust swirl around the galaxyโs disc. A couple of the background galaxies are large enough that their own swirling spiral arms can be seen.

23.06.2025 10:53 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1Text on slide: Home Environment Solutions through Technology and Innovation for All: HESTIA Douglas Booker, Suzanne Bartington, Ruth Doherty, Helen Fisher, Rajat Gupta, Anna Mavrogianni, Alejandro Moreno-Rangel, Catherine Noakes, Amber Yeoman The slide also includes a picture of the HESTIA logo, which include a circle with each element of IEQ, and a greek goddess cradling a home
Text on slide: (Just) transitions? The UK housing stock is undergoing an unprecedented transformation to reduce carbon emissions The impacts of these changes on Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), physical and mental health and wellbeing, and equity are less well known There is also a picture of a row of houses that have been retrofitted, with one that has not.
Integrated technologies Delivering low-carbon, healthy, and equitable homes through design and retrofit will need multiple different technologies Current efforts focus primarily on building fabric or system upgrades, yet there are significant opportunities through replacement technologies, smart devices, and consumer products The picture shows a house with a range of different technologies varying from building fabric and systems upgrades, to consumer products.
This Clean Air Day, I am delighted to announce a new EPSRC funded network, HESTIA.
In HESTIA we are co-developing a health-equity-centred approach to home design & retrofit, integrating existing + emerging building technologies to โฌ๏ธ human & environmental health co-benefits, + โฌ๏ธ health inequalities
