As I understand it, for reasons unknown the Gibbs decided to record two albums at once in 1972 and, rather than combining them into one good album, Stigwood simply scrapped one and released the other. (Sorry, that should be /recorded/ on film, not shot on film, they were shot using videocameras obv, you know that, I know that, we all know that).

(I realise that makes it look like they would be filming continuously for 90 minutes, but it would've been just like the VT machine, they would have only switched it on when going for a take).

The camera script for Power 6 with it being recorded to 35mm film rather than VT.

It would be nice to imagine that if they'd done that, more episodes would exist as they tended to keep episodes shot on film (yeah, but where's Power of the Daleks 6 and Wheel in Space 5 then, Jonny?)

I suppose there could be an argument about cost, but they were telerecording these episodes anyway, weren't they, and even if it was slightly more expensive, film would mean they wouldn't need to spend money on 'You've fucked the videotape, Verity, we can't use it again' fees.

What set me off down this rabbithole? Just an idle thought about The Waking Ally being recorded to 35mm film rather than videotape, and wondering why they didn't just do that for all* the other episodes as it would have made editing so much easier.

* I know they did it for a few others, yes.

It's possible - with a caption slide obv there's the Crossroads/Acorn Antiques risk of a hand appearing in shot - but AIUI with the roller there wouldn't be room to get between roller and camera? But maybe.

Naturally my first thought is to imagine it looked like this.

Innes Lloyd writing to explain that a stage hand appeared in shot during the roller sequence. This is from February, he'd already started trailing Wiles as producer the previous December.

And, thanks to paperwork, we know that this had to be re-shot because on one attempt a member of the production team appeared in shot (presumably as they were positioning the photo? Or did they just walk in front of the camera?). Anyway, this is a new fact. You're welcome.

Been down a totally pointless research rabbit hole to find out what was unusual about the closing titles of episode 12 of The Dalek's Masterplan. (Rather than the credits rolling over black, they ran over a photo of the TARDIS landing site, sans TARDIS, taken during the filming at Ealing).

Given that they were saying that this time last year, and then cancelled them in February, some degree of scepticism is forgivable. (I know you already know this, this is for the benefit of anyone reading who doesn't).
