Oooops! Edmundo already made them spirits. He and Miguel say they’re Mexigonus! Two reproductive males and one female. There should be more at my mom’s though.

Using my Spring Break to play arachnologist & collect some Habronattus jumping spiders 🕷️ from Hidalgo. Maybe @waynemaddison.bsky.social will take a gander.

Ha! Spoke too soon 😣 The TICR Perl scripts for #SNaQ and #PhyloNetworks broke down with my own data, so I had to modified them for the new ARM64 architecture. Make sure to install an appropriate Perl version and use Rosetta2. Also, deleting the server portion and saving MB log files don’t hurt 🙃💻

I'm recruiting a PhD student to join my lab at the University of New Orleans starting in Fall 2025. Research topics will focus on building and using phylogenies to study the diversification of birds, with an emphasis on Neotropical bird radiations. Contact me if interested.

#PhyloNetworks #SNaQ tutorial ready for Systematics class at #UNAM! However, teaching Julia+a little Perl+a little Bash on top of our mid-level R background would be too much for one session… Should I just turn this into a week-long post summer-break workshop?

It ain’t about the diagrams. Read the original translation in Spanish (pic 3). He talks about genealogies being the perfect representation of relationships between taxa and what he was proposing (phylogenetic systematics) 😎 gene trees & species trees.

Nothing like the arrival of new stickers to motivate students into completing a series of daunting #Bayesian phylogenetic challenges in R at #UNAM Obvs they’re holographic.

Many US-based colleagues cannot access NCBIs site. But peeps in Canada, Colombia and Mexico can. Maybe the DOGE kids tripped down a local wire? Incompetence is the trademark of certain administrations.

All of NCBI works from Mexico. Paradoxically, it’s a US issue. Reverse tariffs?

I can even download assemblies. It might be my vintage bad hombre status that unlocks it. Try pissing off someone at DOGE and it might do the trick.
