If your government is setting up concentration camps then you're the bad guys. It's remarkable that even needs saying in the 21st century.

Big white tailed eagle sitting on lichen covered rocks, in front of the ocean. The eagle has mostly brown plumage, with white/beige feather tips. The head is mostly white with brown spots, and the tail (which is mostly hidden behind a rock) is white as well. The beak and feet are bright yellow/orange.

Microsoft pushes staff to use internal AI tools more, and may consider this in reviews. 'Using AI is no longer optional.' Executive Julia Liuson recently told Microsoft managers to include internal AI tool usage when evaluating employee performance.

Microsoft is asking managers to consider usage of AI tools in performance reviews and is considering formal metrics around AI tool usage.

I don’t think usage of any tool, no matter how useful, has ever been a requirement to get a good performance review during my career. This is weird.

A red wooden building that’s falling apart, missing planks some places and paint scratched off on others, where there’s a big β€œmake the north great again” sign, on which there’s a lot of kittiwakes nesting. There’s also a lot of kittiwake nests on the ledges of one of the boarded off windows. There’s also a poster hanging saying β€œfiskeridiktaturet, depresjon Finnmark” with an illustration of a mermaid pushing away two dead fish on it.

Sarah L. Fossheim I'm an experienced independent developer, designer and educator. I specialize in building accessible and inclusive products, and have a particular focus on dataviz accessibility.

If you’re looking for actionable dataviz/web accessibility reviews, consulting or training, I have some availability opening up from October onwards πŸ’ͺ🏻

And! The work will be done from an island at 70Β°N, surrounded by whales, 100.000s of birds, and a lot of weather πŸ’¨πŸŒŠ

Interested?

A pride flag with every color band represented by a NASA image. White is Earth clouds, pink is aurora, blue is the Sun in a specific wavelength, brown is Jupiter clouds, black is the Hubble deep field, red is the top of sprites, orange is a Mars crater, yellow is the surface of Io, green is a lake with algae, blue is Neptune, and purple is the Crab Nebula in a specific wavelength.

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. β˜ΊοΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ’–

This is how fights start.
Stop using divs to make buttons and links.

If it changes the URL in any way, use an <a>.

If a fuction is called that doesn't change the URL, use a <button>

Don't mess with scrolling on a website.
Don't mess with default cursors on a website.
Don't mess with the default Tab order.
Don't mess with the back button in the browser.
Thank you.

One response to my critique of Figma (and Figma Sites):

β€œAny good designer would look into the accessibility and wait to use it.”

I asked why they felt comfy holding individuals to that standard, but not a large company with infinitely more resources.

Didn’t get an answer.

in 2014 after I started working in tech designers started saying that one day in the next few years design tools would publish websites and front-end devs would become obsolete.

Some people may be unable to use a mouse, and instead rely exclusively on keyboards, or use assistive technologies such as speech recognition, head pointers, mouth sticks, or eye-gaze tracking systems. If a website is accessible only to mouse users, these people will be excluded.
