Omg please yes
My question exactly!
“. . . fewer Gen Z women agreed that a wife should always obey her husband (18%) and an even smaller share of Baby Boomer women (6%) held that view”
🙃
Thrilled to say @pickfordfilmcenter.bsky.social in Bellingham, WA, will be participating! June 5-11.
Programming will be announced in April.
There are few things more satisfying than a scathing, well-written bit of dark humor. Bravo to @davidjroth.bsky.social for making me laugh at the absurdity of little men in big shoes this morning.
THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!
Uh oh 😆
I had, ahem, noticed that, too.
And I’m with you!!
I’m a little flummoxed by the hate for the film, so your review was especially cathartic! :)
Terrific review of The Bride! by @moviefreaksara.bsky.social

I recorded a Q&A with the wonderful Suzannah Herbert earlier this week and I’m so excited for the good people of Bellingham who get to see the film tonight along with our talk.
if you can help trans kansans and their families who need to get out of kansas to stay safe, please help.
“if the gender/sex indication on the face of your current credential does not match your sex assigned at birth, you are directed to surrender your current credential” is past frightening.
There are a ton of Wiseman films available on Kanopy, but go to your library if you don't qualify for that service. They are almost guaranteed to have dozens of his films for physical rental.
From Hamdan Ballal, co-director of last year’s Oscar-winning documentary “No Other Land.” This is happening now.
I programmed NATCHEZ as part of the Doctober Film Festival this past October; it’s one of the best films I saw last year. So pleased it’s getting a theatrical release now, & it’ll be coming back to the Pickford on Feb 26 w/ @geniusbastard.bsky.social moderating a Q&A w/ director Suzannah Herbert 🙌🏻
“less a screen version of the novel than a fanfic-style riff”
Yes! And that’s kinda ok with me?? And I think audiences will enjoy it. I just wish it’d gone a little more camp than it is.
Good luck have fun don’t die: Gore Verbinski’s Total Recall. It’s already the most incredible year for films since 2011 and this is just about the leader of the pack
Just wanna remind folks that Andrea Arnold made a lovely earthy adaptation of WUTHERING HEIGHTS with a non-white actor playing Heathcliff and you should watch it.
Chotiner is always so good, some jaw dropping moments are par for course, but this . . . is really something else.
And Spinotti seems to have absolutely no idea.
omg
We've been out of stock of this one for a while, and now it's back! The Art of Spirited Away, a coffee table book gathering hundreds of pages of art and design from the classic 2002 animated film. It's in our Miyazaki section:

Keep wanting to post something about Catherine O'Hara, but everything seems too small. She was so great, and she gave me incredible joy whenever she was in a film or on television. Endlessly funny from the beginning to the end and for many generations. I loved watching her *so much*.
❤️❤️❤️
Suzannah Herbert's documentary Natchez, opening today at Film Forum (needs to be shown nationally), turns observation into engagement—with history, its witnesses, its falsifiers, and government's crucial (and endangered) role in its preservation and transmission:

As tens of thousands across America protest the violence that ICE sows with impunity, federal agents shot and killed another person in Minneapolis today. ICE terrorizes our cities. ICE puts us all in danger. Abolish ICE.
