Today is the 100th anniversary of the founding of AMAZING STORIES.
Personally, I'm proud that I've become an occasional contributor of fiction to the magazine, with a couple stories even now awaiting publication.

Today's the day! You can order the ebook version of ADVERSITY AND AUDACITY: SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY FROM CANCER SURVIVORS now. I'm proud to have a story in the anthology. Other great survivors include Adam-Troy Castro, Geoffrey A. Landis, and many others.

My first reactions about STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY: I really enjoyed it. I was afraid it would be STAR TREK: 90210, but it wasn't. Yes, it's about cadets and not seasoned officers, and they make mistakes because they're still immature. But that's part of reality.
I'm proud to have contributed a story to this anthology of science fiction and fantasy stories by cancer survivors!

Please consider giving!

June Squibb is a national treasure!
She gives a marvelous performance in ELEANOR THE GREAT, the story of a woman whose loneliness leads her down a wrong path.
The rest of the cast is solid, too, especially Rita Zohar, who plays Eleanor's friend Bessie, who gives an Oscar-worthy performance.
One of the latest astronauts is from Louisville!

John Scalzi's WHEN THE MOON HITS YOUR EYE is a hoot and a half! Yes, the concept is crazy -- the Moon literally turns into cheese -- but accept that, and you're in for a treat.
It's an out-and-out comedy, because, really, how could it be anything else?

Finally, a new issue of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science
Fiction is on the way after a bit of a hiatus!
I didn't have to read very far down on the cover to make my decision to order. Nnedi Okorafor and Maurice Broaddus? I'm there!
Look what came in the mail today! The anthology TALES OF GALACTIC PEST CONTROL, containing one of my stories!
It's edited by SF legends David Gerrold and Tom Easton!

If you're a fan of Janis Ian, or of music in general, the documentary about her life and music titled BREAKING SILENCE is highly recommended. She's also a big science fiction fan, and you can see her posing with SF writers George R.R. Martin and Mike Resnick.

Kevin J. Anderson's NETHER STATION combines SF and horror, with deft characterization and a good dose of hard science. A trip to the far reaches of our solar system to investigate a wormhole turns out not to be as benign as they'd hoped and assumed.

J. Michael Straczynski's SPIDER-MAN AND THE SINISTER SIXTEEN is a laugh-out-loud tale of Spidey and M.J and a "quiet" dinner out. But one super-hero after another shows up. Loki, of course, has a party of three, with a date on either arm. Squirrel Girl refuses to check her squirrel. Hilarity ensues.
STRANGE NEW WORLDS did one of its genre-busting episodes this week -- a spoof of sixties' science fiction shows and a murder mystery.
The actors all seem to having a hoot. Paul Wesley, in particular, goes full-Shatner in his depiction of a fictional starship captain.

Jason Sanford's WE WHO HUNT ALEXANDERS is a fast-paced, character-driven horror story.
Amelia and her mother Danjay are "rippers," who feed on society's worst people.
Amelia makes friends, comes to terms with developing her powers, and protects her mother as best she can.
Highly recommended.
I never thought I'd develop the habit of only using one space at the end of a sentence instead of two. I knew even if I tried, I'd have to do a search-and-replace in case I missed any.
I just finished a 36,000-word novella, and only had 14 instances of two spaces instead of one. I guess I did OK.
The new NAKED GUN movie is a real hoot! Liam Neeson really shows his comedy chops, and this may send his career into more such movies, as it did for Leslie Nielsen. Pay attention to the background! A lot of funny stuff is happening behind the main action, and the end credits contain their own jokes.
My story "Parallel Tracks" is up for the Amazing Stories Readers Choice Award for the second quarter of 2025!
Here's the link to the story to read (for free!) if you want to check it out. The link to vote for it (or any other nominee) is in the first comment.

The most important thing about this iteration of the FF is that it nails the characters.
The Reed and Susan relationship feels like a real marriage, and not a cartoon one. And Susan is the lead character here, which is refreshing.
Galactus and his herald, Shalla-Bal, are wonderfully realized.
When I heard the news about Ozzy Osbourne passing, I couldn't help but remember the performance the Louisville Leopards gave for him several years ago:

This anthology will make you laugh, cringe, and never look at ductwork the same way again.
Do you like political intrigue and first contact situations? I've now published three volumes of the adventures of galactic diplomat Chanda Kasmira -- CHANDA'S AWAKENING, CHANDA'S HOMECOMING, and the just-released CHANDA'S DESTINY. Each book is a stand-alone adventure.
