That image with the lights of towns below was somewhere slightly north of Winnipeg, where I was born. That landscape down there is right about where my dad’s Icelandic immigrant grandfather farmed. Dad had stories about helping in the harvest as a child, & riding the draught horses home

Equally beautiful on the way over in daylight as we neared and passed over Greenland then Canada, above frozen seas. Again, no one was looking out their windows!! Poignant too, thinking about whether these scenes will be gone forever as the world warms

I mean this was so so mesmerising, the snow reflecting so much star and moonlight that it looks like early morning but this is pitch dark night, transformed
