All I can think about is Jeff Bezos saying that he slashed jobs at the Washington Post — including those of foreign correspondents in the Middle East — based on "the data," and a few weeks later a whole war breaks out in the Middle East that these laid off folks would have covered as true experts.

They can look more like shifting clouds, and colours do come up better in pictures instead of to the naked eye. But once you know the subtleties they’re easy to spot. I am sure that I missed auroras thinking they were clouds on night transatlantic flights for years!

That image with the lights of towns below was somewhere slightly north of Winnipeg, where I was born. That landscape down there is right about where my dad’s Icelandic immigrant grandfather farmed. Dad had stories about helping in the harvest as a child, & riding the draught horses home

Equally beautiful on the way over in daylight as we neared and passed over Greenland then Canada, above frozen seas. Again, no one was looking out their windows!! Poignant too, thinking about whether these scenes will be gone forever as the world warms

A bit of aurora on the flight from SFO to Dublin overnight. It was so bright out — this at about midnight but the snowy Canadian landscape meant the ground was clear to see. So beautiful and yet I don’t think anyone was looking out their window except me
