Not much to add to all of the lovely tributes that have been coming in, but just to note for those that didnโ€™t know him - he really was a great scientist, character and visionary.

The Dunn School is a really great environment for taking up a Career Development Fellowship, and we are looking for candidates! Please spread the word.

Looking forward to todays Symposium in honour of our dear friend and colleague Bรฉla Novรกk (1956-2025). A fantastic cast lined up to celebrate his life and his many accomplishments.

Congratulations Richard! Have to admit Iโ€™ve never heard of this list, but great for publishing that you are on it! Cover of Time next?

David really was one of the good guys. Smart, friendly and fun to be around. So sad that he died so young.

Sadaf was spectacular as usual, but Michel Milinkovitchโ€™s talk on colour patterning in reptiles was the best for me in hearing about fascinating biology that I hadnโ€™t thought about before. He did talk for too long though (although I hardly noticed as I was enjoying so much).

This is barely believable.

For those who havenโ€™t seen this yet. So brave. And I think they even look just slightly ashamed?

Most inefficient Christmas dessert dish? Happy Holidays to all!

Who could have predicted this?! This will be quite a party and (more importantly?) a great way for early career scientists to hear about other fields and to build their networks. Hope to see you there.

And organising the free beer for the party afterwards was even more impressive! Great job.

At #CellBio24 discussing the merits of US vs UK/EU science. No clear winner, but at least we can design a device to properly pour water. Who knew we were so clever?

The Company of Biologists @biologists.bsky.social have been such great supporters of the biology community in the UK and around the world. Celebrating 100yrs at a meeting/party in Liverpool next year. Some great speakers (and me too).

Looking forward to it! The weather in the uk is really miserable.

Glad to see the centrioles centre-stage!

Looks like academics are making a decisive move over. Probably the least we can do.

The lab has now officially moved over! Actually donโ€™t think we posted on Twitter for ages - canโ€™t be bothered to even check. @jrafflab.bsky.social

Thanks Steve, I will have a look. Are you using this effectively?

20.11.2024 08:10 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Agreed (although not certain citations donโ€™t give some-admittedly overly simplistic-information). But that takes a lot of work!

What do we think about this? I have to admit I often look at peopleโ€™s profile when reviewing a grant, as often very little detail of applicantโ€™s publications in the grant. I feel guilty, but am not sure it is irrelevant? Would love to ditch Google!

19.11.2024 08:53 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 1

Somehow this really hits home. Oh my.

Yes, Iโ€™d love to know where we are with this. Such a fantastic potential resource for the UK. But is it safe for us to all sign over our data?

Remembering how US election night used to be fun on Twitter-informative and bonding even when result sad. Donโ€™t even dare look now. Good luck to all friends, family and colleagues in US. Our thoughts are with you.

Basically good news for science in the budget, with a caveat that detail is still to be released.

But broadly, phew!
