When extreme events happen together or in sequence, their impacts can be catastrophic for people and river biodiversity. Whether that’s a flood following a drought, a drought and heatwave operating in unison, or a flood falling on saturated ground, the impacts of these compound events can multiply.

Man sieht leider aber auch, wie es rasch wieder *verschwindet*, denn Drainagen & Entwässerungsgräben laufen auf Hochtouren.
Das Wasser soll weg aus der Landschaft, nix mit #Grundwasserneubildung. 😐
Ich hab nicht hinter die Paywall geguckt, aber der Teaser reicht auch schon. "Klimaschutzgesetz an neue gesellschaftliche Prioritäten anpassen", so als wäre es noch an uns diese Prioritäten zu definieren

Nächste Woche Montag geht es weiter mit unserer Vortragsreihe zu neuen Moorlandschaften. Das wird dieses Mal sehr spannend, weil es um eine Frage geht, die auch viele in der Praxis Beteiligte interessiert: Besteht die Gefahr von Nährstoffausträgen? Insbesondere auch für Genehmigende interessant!

These two award-winning scientists illustrate how messed up the system is in 🇩🇪 and 🇨🇭. One had a successful career but had to find a permanent position elsewhere. The other's contract will run out in 3 years. It also illustrates how it won't be easy to accommodate US scientists in these systems. 🌊

Even among marine biogeochemists, I would say there are only a handful worldwide that truly understand "alkalinity" (@agdco2.bsky.social is one and you should follow him), so it's always astounding to me that we're all now using the term casually like this. 🌊
