this is GORGEOUS HOLY-

i have so many ideas for the actual meat of the story, bt this is getting super long. majority of that was just world-building and background stuff but there is actually SO MUCH to it and i have it all in my head. i just gotta find the motivation to write this shit

also, the enemy bk was facing is essentially the league of villians. afo survived basically horcrux-style and they started consolidating power in secret in the tribal lands due to the instability there

alright, the rest of the story follows the main characters as they travel back through the tribal lands, lots of war/battle, more miscommunication due to culture, possible surprise mpreg, and a VERY slow-burned relationship for bkdk (including lots of groveling from bk)

the wedding occurs right there and then, and the cultural practices of bk’s tribes are used, causing further embarrassment for dk all during to cultural differences and miscommunication. the tribal ways seem archaic and dehumanizing to him

heavy angst in this decision bc it means abandoning his post as next ruler of yuuei to become bound to the man that tried to conquer them. inko and yagi are heartbroken too as it displaces the balance of yuuei with ofa removed from it

dk is pressured to agree and essentially become bk’s “war prize” (thats how he sees it) in order to prevent his ppl from facing all out war bc refusing means bk would try to take the nation by force for their resources

the only way bk knows is consolidation through battle and loyalty through merit, and his advisors demand assurance of yuuei’s compliance through a political marriage as collateral.

dk agrees to aide them but doesn’t understand why bk approached with battle first, rather than an envoy to petition their nation for aide (due to cultural differences bk is mistrusting abt that process and has never even heard of “political envoys”)

negotiations are bk and dk’s first real interaction. blah blah blah, bk demands control of their armed forces and aide to go back with him to tribal lands to complete unification and fight against an unnamed enemy that had been slaughtering their ppl

due to nearly fifty years of peace-time and dk still mastering ofa, they are unprepared for war, and after watching several close friends die in the battlefield, dk calls for a cease and surrenders for negotiation

this comes to a head when this new leader (bk) shows up at the border of yuuei and begins a full assault on the nation, and dk is sent out with a small army to push them back

story actually starts here (they’re young adults like 18-20 ish): dk has recently been confirmed as successor (less than a year previous), and rumors have begun that a tyrant in the tribal lands has been conquering and absorbing other tribes

the tribal lands have always been perceived as dangerous and chaotic due to in-fighting and lack of unification, and have previously had little contact with other established nations

nana and yagi wage the “final war” against him, and after her death, yagi faces him in battle one last time and believes to have killed him for good, allowing the nations to fully heal and re-establish peace for the last 40+ years

previously, afo was an ancient enemy who tried to turn the entire continent into his totalitarian empire, but was suppressed by the first ofa holders and pushed into hiding. nations were in shambles from the aftermath

dk was born magic-less but is chosen by yagi to compete for successor-ship. him and mirio are the final two, and the ancestors choose dk to carry the torch.

once two are left, the ancestors (previous ofa holders) select a candidate to take the torch of power and inherit the ancestral magic (ofa) to be the next ruler. while the trials for the next ruler is public info, the details on the ancestral magic is not.

the nation of yuuei has a selection based rule. a group of potential successors are chosen and put through rigorous trials and training for the chance to be the next ruler.

primary nations (names subject to change idk): yuuei (yagi is current ruler), endeavor (enji=current ruler), ingenium (iida family), and the tribal lands (discontent series of tribes that, up until recently, lacked unification- unified by bk). there’s more but they’re less relevant

this is a world where there a different types of magic: innate abilities (magic one is born to, typically genetic), potions, magical-infused items (think support gear), and alchemy. while the past three could be used by anyone, they’re more effective for those with magical inclination
