I wanted to point out that the game is not being developed by the people who originally made Dead Cells. Mentioning DE brought other implications I failed to consider. AFAIK there's nothing shady going on.

Hey, I made a shortsighted comparison and put a ton more worry on people's hearts than I wanted to. AFAIK there isn't anything shady going on at Motion Twin and Evil Empire. The new Castlevania just isn't being made by the people who made Dead Cells; rather, its DLC.

This. I made a shortsighted comparison, when I wanted to discuss something else. It'd be more like if a new Devil May Cry came out and they put Kamiya's name in it just because he made the first one. That's what I wanted to point out.

Yes! I'm very interested in analysis of video games as historical objects, so marketing that misattributes author work like this always pisses me off without fail. Similar to how folks will accredit e.g. Nintendo for various franchises they do not in fact develop (Kirby, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem)

Yeah that was my bad. I made a very poor comparison. I've deleted the post now before it gets any bigger. I genuinely meant it as a comparison of genealogy and was too short-sighted to realize that comparing it to DE would have much larger and worse implications

Having Motion Twin in the trailer was weird considering "Motion Twin acted as an Advisory Game Studio on the project". It's probably just a marketing thing, which is a bit misleading but it's nothing close to a Disco Elysium level.

I think, exclusively regarding the question "am I going to like this?":

If you love Dead Cells for its fundamental game design elements, then not really, no

If you loved the Return to Castlevania DLC, yes, it does matter

I could be misunderstanding the question though of course
