Thank you for reading through if you made it all the way. Even if you don't subscribe to the idea that Haruka has some meta purpose, I hope you enjoyed a summary of his relationship wit Chainsaw Man. Haruka is a very cool character, I think he needs more love.

Just like Haruka, many fans are disappointed with both Denji and the entity of Chainsaw Man itself. Chainsaw Man the manga has become engrossed with Denji's hypersexuality, many love this design while others are losing respect for the character and franchise.

The other major aspect people hate is what some call "The Denji Cycle", the cycle of Denji falling for promises of intimacy and repeating the same habits he thought he broke. It happens CONSTANTLY in Part 2, Denji's hypersexuality is abused by almost everyone around him.

As mentioned above, Haruka's perception of Chainsaw Man is totally shattered. The Chainsaw Man he has been worshipping isn't who he thought, Chainsaw Man was an icon of inspiration for him. In reality, he's just a vulgar guy from his school.

There's no doubt that Part 2 has been heavily controversial for far too many reasons to list here. The two biggest factors I think Haruka relates to are the realisation that Chainsaw Man has changed and Denji's hypersexuality.

Firstly, Haruka has been a fan of Chainsaw Man before the start of Part 2. He even mentions the Gun Devil fight. Haruka is a long time fan, just like the readers. You 100% know a Haruka IRL, someone who owns all the merch or wishes to be Chainsaw Man. YOU might even be Haruka.

All of that analysis has been objective so far, that is just quite literally what Haruka's character has been through in the story. Now where I might start losing people is how this character relates to a more meta outlook, on the Chainsaw Man fans who have lost interest.

Haruka's entire view on Chainsaw Man is being broken apart. He DOES fight for rewards, he isn't inspirational or influential. He's a boy who's a slave to his desires, ignoring his own sister's disappearance to try and visit a brothel.

This page in particular is what made me think about writing this thread, Haruka's disgusted look always sticks out to me when I reread this chapter. Haruka's watching his idol at his lowest, Chainsaw Man isn't an avatar of justice, he's just a traumatised teenage boy.

Haruka knows Denji, he's a vulgar boy with a dirty mouth. Chainsaw Man's identity is a disappointing reveal, but Haruka still loves Chainsaw Man. He blushes when Denji wakes up, even blushing just talking to him the station. His love for Chainsaw Man hasn't fully been broke

Haruka learns who Chainsaw Man is in 161, his blush from holding his guts fades when he learns Chainsaw Man is just "Asa's Boyfriend". A rather disappointing revelation, Denji wasn't exactly the symbol of justice Haruka expected.

Haruka becomes the "face" of the Church. He is THE face of a Chainsaw Man fan. Barem is a Chainsaw Man fan because he loves seeing him in pain, Makima is a fan because she adores his strength, Haruka is a fan of the idea of Chainsaw Man. Chainsaw Man could be someone like him.

Haruka is introduced as a Chainsaw Man fanboy. He scored second in a fan quiz (i wouldnt be surprised if Denji was first), he owns every piece of merch, he even has a pull cord surgically implanted. He's a total Chainsaw Man nut.

I'm not the first to make a comment on fan allegories in Part 2, Barem Bridge for example commonly is believed to represent the fans who were begging for Chainsaw Man's return back when Denji couldn't transform. Parasocial relationships are all over Part 2.

Haruka Iseumi is a character I feel best represents the many IRL Chainsaw Man fans that feel disappointed with Part 2 and what it means for Denji/Chainsaw Man.
Intentionally or not, his role in the story fits that of an adoring fan who slowly falls out of love with their idol.
