10 panels from a comics page in progress - in two rows of 5 each. Top row, panel one a gaseous cloud. 2-4 - supernova, its shockwaves colliding with that cloud. 5th panel see the cloud collapsing beginning to turn. Second tier - first panel - spinning gases, center warming. Panel 2 - great cloud of gas spinning and partly obscuring proto star within, panels 3-5, other side of protostar seen in prior panel - it's later in the solar system's evolution, we see no gas near the star, then a thin layer of rock and farther out gas - a differentiated disk swirling around the star...
gaseous cloud collapses, gathers into itself - heats up - remaining material thinly spread outward - only rock nearish, gas/ice farther still. Solar system is forming... Panels 10/30...

A spiky smudge against a sea of stars
Here are the remnants of a massive star that ignited in 1054. Ancient astronomers marveled at how they could see the supernova even during the day. All that's left today is the faint, colorful smudge called the Crab Nebula.

The aurora borealis (northern lights) as two distinctive shapes over a mountain. One purple spike into a more diffuse green wave. Both very clear and strong.

Green and pink aurora borealis in very narrow stripes
Also of note is this single-second exposure. When the lights are bright enough to shoot that fast, you get to see how complex and delicate Lady Aurora's ball gowns really are.
(All of these are processed in Snapseed directly from the jpeg because I am horribly sleepy deprived after last night 😂)

Directed graph showing "Oscar"
from Middle Irish "Osgar"/"Oscur": "Deer-Friend" from PIE *uksḗn: "bull" and *keh₂-: "to desire"
but also possibly from one or more versions of the Germanic name *Ansugaizaz: "God-Spear" (Old English Osgar, Old Norse Asgeirr) from PIE *h₂emsus/*h₂m̥sus: "father, head of household, lord" and *ǵʰey-: "to propel"
The same graph with other words shown for context, including:
from Proto-Indo-European *uksḗn: "bull"
English "ox", "Oxford"
Irish "Oisín"
from PIE *keh₂-: "to desire"
Irish "cara": "friend"
English "charity"
from *h₂emsus: "father, lord"
English "Osborne", "Aesir"
Avestan <Ahura Mazda>
from PIE *ǵʰoysós: "throwing spear, javelin, missile"
Irish "ga", "Gae Bolga"
English "gar (fish)"
As an Irish name "Oscar" would mean "Deer-Friend" (sic) or "Deer-Kinsmen" (the mythological Oscar was the son of Oisín: "Fawn, Deerling").
But it may also be partly derived from the Norse name "Asgeirr": "God-Spear".

A highland cow having a little nap on a boulder on Dartmoor (ok, it was actually scratching its head)
Highland cattle are famous for their ability to "disco nap". Normally these brief, efficient sleeps will last between three and twenty minutes, deploying a variety of objects as pillows, including moorland boulders, cars or any particularly large dog or sheep who happens to be nearby.

Illustration of the plant Richea pandanifolia featuring long, wide green leaves, and clusters of small flowers on a tall, slender stalk. The drawing includes close-up botanical details of the flower’s structure, seed pods, and cross-sections. At the bottom left, a smaller scene shows two Richea pandanifolia plants growing near a body of water with hills in the distance. The style is a detailed, scientific botanical print from the 19th century.
