Discussing marking & written feedback from @daisychristo.bsky.social
From experience:
-students donβt respond to it
-itβs more work for teachers than learners
-parent expectations make it hard to let go
Is there a more effective way?

Latest from us: Feedback should be a thermostat, not a thermometer.
There's a lot of effort going into producing AI-generated comments on student writing.
But even the very best written comments are not great at helping students improve.

What has No More Marking discovered in testing the capacity of AI in assessment?
LLMs have some usefulness but they cannot as yet operate independently. Newsflash-humans still needed!

Out today: a new episode of the Melissa and Lori Love Literacy podcast in which I talk about my new book, Beyond the Science of Reading, & the connections between the science of reading & the science of learning.
It was a great conversation!

βEven if perfection or perfect happiness isnβt possible, itβs still worth trying to improve β and itβs still worth trying to improve VAR.β
I know little about this in the sporting context but it occurred to me that you could replace βVARβ with pretty much anything.
Why does technology work in cricket & rugby so much better than VAR in football?
What if it's not to do with VAR, but with fan culture instead.
Is there a quantity theory of grievance - a fixed amount of anger regardless of how good the decisions are?

Key line: βFor this reform to work, what would be needed was a national curriculum that was a) slimmer and b) more specific about the detail and order of topics to be taught. This would undoubtedly be controversial, but it might also lead to some of the impressive reading score gains.β
