I also will keep welcoming Western ms studies - this is not just a historical strength for the journal, but still the most innovative field for material textual history. Anyways, I will skim anything if you are wondering whether to submit.

I thrive in an environment where many languages but no mastery of any is expected. Nothing is more boorish and immature than judging people by accents and colloquial fluency. Sure, great if it's your thing, but life is long and there's so much to try to learn.

Today's conference precedings were in that heady mix of Sino-English-Franko-Japanese, aka a bunch of Sinologists who read everything and speak each other's languages in weird ways.

I suspect people are afraid of it because everyone is like... "omg there are 18 cases!" But it's a false grammatical analogy. Just affixes in the normal agglutinative language way. You can learn them in 45 minutes. No Russian, Attic, etc. is this.

Gave myself a challenge to see how much Hungarian I can learn in 45 days. I have to report, all things about its difficulties are overblown. The only real issue is the absence of loan words makes vocabulary a bit tougher. But because Ferenc Kazinczy was smart, vocab works well once you get stems.

My siblings in book history, thank you for your work. But especially my German friends, please write shorter books. (Also I am so excited for this)

I don't know about, and have not thought through the class marking nature of fried class. But I ate them at least once a month with my grandfather as a kid. I imagine this was my first plate in years. Memory sits heavy with grease inside me.
