Many presidents have sent troops into action without waiting for Congress to declare war, but Trumpβs attack on Iran is a particularly stark case.

Ann Godoff, who published and edited authors from Ron Chernow to Zadie Smith to Salman Rushdie, died this week at 76.
She was also my publisher and editor. Once we disagreed and she let me have my way. I decided later that she had been right, and just did what she said after that.
Remembering Ann Godoff, the legendary publisher who has died at 76.

Stittβs views havenβt changed: He was eager in 2024 to deport criminals and still is. The difference of opinion is over what to do with people working jobs. He says many in his Trump-voting state want them to stay. Read more here:

Gov. Stitt of Oklahoma has his own ideas about work permits for people without legal status. Watch the NPR video with Stitt here:

This is the amazing part: OK Gov. Kevin Stitt, a critic of Trumpβs immigration policy, was so on board just 14 months ago that he was preparing to help on Day One.
Now, as seen in an NPR video, he is among the Republicans who say Trump is going too far. Before and after:
Oklahomans - and people who follow tribal issues - may note the NPR video interview with OK Gov. Kevin Stitt.
The Republican identifies as Cherokee. He also has battled with the Cherokee Nation and other tribes in OK. A long passage on this begins 19:27:

A fascinating passage of the NPR video also discusses Stittβs identity as a member of the Cherokee Nation. He is proud of that identity, which has not stopped him from battles with Cherokee leaders over the control of land.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, in talking about the future of the Republican Party, says: βWe have to get back to integrity.β
In an NPR video, Stitt says itβs βun-Americanβ to cancel economic projects βbased on our political views.β Also opposes politicizing the Justice Dept.

Federal immigration agents keep saying they need access to inmates in the Minnesota prison system who may have deportation orders.
Yet Minnesota keeps saying they are already doing this. They offered receipts this weekend.

Thanks, Bluefolk.
It seems you liked her answer. You donβt get the answer if someone doesnβt ask the question.
Your definition of βboth sidesβ here is literally that someone on your side is interviewed in front of millions of listeners, and isnβt solely asked about your sideβs talking points.
Thanks. I think your reply answers your question. You heard the story and plainly heard enough facts and context to make your own judgement of who was right and wrong in the events discussed.

Thanks for this response.
Vonnegutβs books made people laugh at serious things. Itβs what people love about him.
Some people didnβt understand, which may explain why heβs banned so much.
Iβd invite you to consider the story, and your reaction to it, in that light.
