editorial folks: does anyone use MegaReplacer (part of Editorium’s suite of tools)?

if so, have you found a good guide or tips on using it?

I’ve been using it for manuscript cleanup, but I feel like I could be making better use of it if I were better at devising the find/replace codes

I've added FEARLESS, SLEEPLESS, DEATHLESS to mine based in large part on your raves about it, so this seems like a fair exchange! 😁

I love my library, but it is lamentable that none of the Wodehouse audiobooks it has available are read by Stephen Fry

there are so many great existing tools that work well, keep you in control of your work, and don't violate the trust between you and the author. all I've seen in ai uses for editing (all types) so far are worse solutions to already-solved problems

‘I wish I could push ChatGPT off a cliff’: professors scramble to save critical thinking in an age of AI As AI has upended the way students learn, academics worry about the future of the humanities - and society at large

“There’s kind of a defeatism, this idea that there’s no stopping technology & that resistance is futile, everything will be crushed in its path. That needs to change … We can decide that we want to be human.”

Just floating it out there, if you work in publishing and would ever want a trip to Philly (on me!) to give a chat, do give me a nudge.

a chart showing that. There's almost no impact on productivity for firms, the vast majority showing either no impact or a very, very small impact, less than 5%,

The impact of "AI" on productivity over for large firms over the past 3 years (US, UK, DE, Aus) according to NBERS

Working with Your Editor | H-Net

Having a better understanding of what editors do and how they do it avoids unrealistic expectations and hurt feelings. The “Working With Your Editor” (WWYE) series from #FeedingTheElephant demystifies the editorial process and provides authors with advice for, well, working with their editors.

If there's not enough time for a person to do a developmental edit of your book, then they are likely not the right editor for you. You deserve an editor who knows your book, who has read every word, who cares about you and your goals.

Books Are Meant to Be Slow The erosion of deep reading weakens our capacity to grasp complex ideas.

"Just as we don’t sip an earthy red in order to work our way through the stocks in a cellar, we shouldn’t read just to diminish the pile of books on our desk. There is pleasure in an attentive sip."
