Alex Pretti was trying to help a woman off the ground. Then immigration agents tackled, shot, and killed him.

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.

Alex Jeffrey Pretti was an ICU nurse at a VA hospital. His life, through his profession, was dedicated to serving his community and our country.

As so many have now seen on video, his final act before he was killed by federal agents was doing everything in his power to protect his community.

Alex and tens of thousands of Minnesotans have boldly defended their neighbors against the murderous occupation of an American city by the federal government. I am enraged and heartbroken for Alex, his family, Minneapolis, and America.

In Minneapolis, ICE arrested a 5-year-old coming home from preschool and tried to use him as human bait.

His teacher describes him as “a bright young student.”

These monsters are sick.

In his time and in ours, others seek to make us afraid, divided, and silent. We will not give them that satisfaction. As we honor Dr. King today, we continue the fight with determination, resilience, and joy.

Last week, it was my honor to visit the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis. As I stood on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel where Dr. King spent his final moments, I thought about what Dr. King would see if he looked at America now. What would he think? What would he say?

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. loved America. He loved our country so much that he dedicated his life — and in the end, his life was taken — in a fight for our nation's highest ideal: Freedom.

It has been one month since the Trump administration's deadline to release the Epstein files passed. To date, they have only released 1% of the files they have.

Today, we honor him by recommitting to the work he began to build a more just and inclusive future for all. His legacy reminds us that progress requires persistence, courage and action from everyone.

ICE agents are stalking the streets of Minneapolis demanding that random brown people provide proof of citizenship.

I thought we learned this lesson back in World War II, but I guess not.

Vance says ICE is protected by absolute immunity. Immunity for murdering a U.S. citizen? WTF. Do all Americans now have absolute immunity to do whatever they want? That’s an absurd argument.

Renee Good was murdered in broad daylight, and Republicans are acting as if it is ok. Where is your decency? Where is your humanity? When will y’all develop a backbone and actually represent the people that sent you here?

For months, Trump’s DHS has wreaked lawless havoc in our neighborhoods. Tear gassing infants, families, and police. Firing their weapons at peaceful citizens. Killing innocent people.

It’s brutal, unconstitutional, and out of control.

It must stop.

Last night, at the corner where an ICE agent murdered Renee Good, thousands of Minnesotans gathered in the frigid dark to protest her killing. In the face of this administration’s lawless violence, solidarity is the answer.

They want to mold America to their cruelty. We refuse.

The ICE agent needs to stand trial.

The ICE agent responsible is still not behind bars for murder. One person is dead in Minneapolis. How many more?

DHS and MAGA are spreading propaganda claiming the Minneapolis driver tried to run over ICE. That claim is completely false. Multiple videos from different angles (recorded by people on the scene) clearly show that this did not happen. ICE killed a US citizen. Justice is required for this killing.

ICE shot and killed a woman on camera today. We all saw the video.
