Basketball thoughts from the game vs BGSU thread
-Center spot is not holding this team back at all, you can clearly tell that Cooper and Zapala are starting to figure it out on offense and both have very good feet on defense on hedging and getting back on their guys in PNR situations. ๐งต

Noticed that heavily in the 1st half. Akins and Fears were getting beat up on those and in the 2nd half they did much better (coop also hedging harder helped a lot in the 2nd half) but I think BGSU also just has some of those twitchy guards that made every shot in the first 15 mins of the 1st half.

Iโve always been up and down about coop. Can the breakout happen this year ? Absolutely. Can he also be an absolute zero on offense. Yup. Thatโs my biggest fear but thatโs also not his job, itโs Kohlers to be that offensive big. Rebounding has been solid from him and the defense will always be there

Call me a homer or whatever. But the last 10 mins of the 2nd half was maybe MSUโs best performance of the season so far. I think this team can do some damage this year

I think itโs more that his jumpshot is slowly developed when rising up to shoot it. Needs a good amount of room for it to get it off smoothly.

Samford on the clock. Good mid major and I expect Izzo and the squad to not take these guys lightly. Almost beat Kansas last year in the tournament as a 13 seed. Idk if a lot of those guys came back but I would assume some did. Iโll take going into maui 4-1 with a chance to play 2 more ranked teams.

Leaving him in the starting rotation either. His rebounding efforts on the year have also been very good. Adding that amount of size on the wing + zapala being 7 foot has helped this team a lot. We are more aggressive and those 2nd half defensive adjustments showed with MSUโs newly added size.

-Iโve seen lots of different opinions on fidler this season. But I commend that heโs SO good at getting to the line. His shot is there and itโll start to go down. He was a 38% career 3pt shooter for a reason. Would maybe like to see him come off the bench for a game but Iโm not opposed to

If weโre getting out in transition more. He would be leading the country in assists if we could actually hit a 3. Everything Iโve seen this year from this squad is THERE! Just knock down these open 3s and this is easily a top 25 team/top 5 in the B1G.

But Holloman hunting for his shot is probably why Jase only shot 1 shot. Still would like to see teng get minutes for shooting purposes. Missed his 2 opportunities but the shot selections were great.
- Fears, manโฆthe transition offense has been stellar this year bc of him. Iโll take more turnovers

(Continued) Improved mightily. Akins played a good overall game and thatโs what MSU needs from him. The 3 will come and him seeing that one fall in late 2nd half could be a boost in confidence (same with Booker seeing one go thru in the 1st half)
-wish Jase was a little more aggressive this gameโฆ

If Carr is going to play the 3, you have to have Booker/Kohler at the 4/5 IMHO. A fun lineup would be Holloman, Jase, Carr, Book, Kohler.
-gaurd play/shootingโฆmuch better in the 2nd half. Donโt know what was going on in the first half defensively from that crew, but 2nd half intensity on that end

Praise to Saddi Washington. Cooper looks a lot more comfortable around the rim and making post moves. If he can get 6-8 points a game with 5-7 boards coming off the bench, man

-Kohler getting the start at the 4 was interesting tune up, felt like he struggled on defense guarding the big guy yesterday, but his offense is always gonna be a plus.
-Carr is a spark plug, would love to see him play the 4 more (which he did in this game)
