yes, I agree that interoceptive processing in the insula could be a link between these things, though it seems there's surprisingly very little research on the neural correlates of absorption experiences or trait absorption.

I encouraged my students to be the foremost expert on how all the stuff in my lab works. That way, I have more time to supervise the conceptual design and interpretation aspects of their studies, give them *timely* feedback on writing, and write grants to pay for all the broken EEG electrodes.

That's interesting! Are there any things published yet about this merger? I recently published about a possible merger of dynamical systems and predictive coding theories in music perception, at least in terms of the neuroanatomy they assume. www.nature.com/articles/s44...

Fascinating figure at the cogsci biz meeting this morning: because CSS owns their two journals (Cognitive Science and topiCS), they get a ton of revenue from the publisher, on the order of a half mil per year

This is so much money that they can run huge conferences at a loss, in perpetuity

Expectations of brilliance underlie gender distributions across academic disciplines General opinions about talent versus effort hold sway over representation of women in academic departments. [Also see Perspective by Penner]

I've always found this finding to be a pretty compelling explanation of gender balance in different fields.

How to account for publication bias in reviews/meta-analysis?

Also, so many sociological questions, e.g., how to make sure adversarial collaborations results are interpreted honestly; and how to get neuroscience to tackle repl/repr issues, esp because data are complex and expensive to collect.

Reflections on adversarial collaboration from the adversaries: was it worth it? - Theory and Society There is much enthusiasm, in principle, for adversarial collaborations (ACs), a scientific conflict resolution technique that encourages investigators with

TWCF grantee Cory Clark from @upenn.edu surveyed scholars who had engaged in #AdversarialCollaborations; ACs often save time during peer review, result in higher-quality research, & most felt they improved understanding in their field and would try ACs again.

I recently published a short comment on an editorial in Nature, and they edited my draft to include a double negative, and it gave me such perverse pleasure I had no inclination to point out that it should be corrected.
