Targeting intracranial electrical stimulation (ES) to network regions defined within individuals causes network-level effects

Q: Can we use individualized network maps from precision fMRI to modulate a targeted network via intracranial ES?
A: Yes!

Our new paper is out! When navigating through an environment, how do we combine our general sense of direction with known landmark states? To explore this, @denislan.bsky.social used a task that allowed subjects (or neural networks) to choose either their next action or next state at each step.

In our new paper led by @rebeccaboe.bsky.social & @francescafardo.bsky.social we analyzed thermal pain thresholds in 565 adults and found no link to mental health symptoms.

Some neurons respond more strongly to visual stimuli than others. But the rest of the brain doesnβt prioritize signals from those neurons, according to a new study. Read more in this monthβs Null and Noteworthy.

We put out this preprint a couple months ago, but I really wanted to replicate our findings before we went to publication.
At first, what we found was very confusing!
But when we dug in, it revealed a fascinating neural strategy for how we switch between tasks
