In her review of Piketty, McCloskey points out that the Latin root of data is "things given," but that the documentation Piketty is working with, primarily tax records, is more accurately a reflection of "things seized." That is, not data, but capta.
I want to dΓ©tournΓ© McCloskey's point to argue that capta is the appropriate title for the currencies of technofeudalism.? It is an economy which is growing increasingly inefficient, coercive, and authoritarian because the economic process it glorifies is not one of mutual consent to market exchange, but of non-consensual seizure of attention, identity, and future potential.

I’ve been trying to use capta consistently, where appropriate, and have been pleased to find, for many, no explanation is needed. It is very intuitive, as disciplinary jargon should be.

i keep seeing writers who want both:
* to be bold iconoclasts going against the pretenses and trends of the day and
* to have a perfect 5.0 review score on goodreads

and like, I'm sorry. those things don't go together.

this is my game, I Don’t Remember When I Started Killing Bugs Again. to play, you log it every time you kill an insect. this is also available as a web app @transwron.gs made with me. people tell me it changed their behavior- they think twice about hurting insects when they remember the rules.

Draw Maps, Leave Blanks (Dungeon World) with Tim Denee β€” Dice Exploder How detailed of maps, and how big of blanks?

This week on Dice Exploder I've got @olddog.games on talking Blades '68, Dungeon World, and "draw maps leave blanks". How much should you define about your game in advance - as a player, as a GM, as a designer? Tim's smart!

it would be dragon's razor , which in a games context sounds more like a magic item than a philosophical tool

03.03.2026 16:54 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

there's a difference between activities that can be games and activities that are games :) i talk about this in the blogpost

If I may: at 17 I wasn't indoctrinated to join the military, but I did suffer from generational trauma and all sorts of grief, by growing up in a family that was deeply affected by a right wing coup backed by the US government. Do I also get some sympathy and understanding for my personal biases?

i keep getting into (enjoyable and fun) arguments about the nature of games that can run the risk of getting lost in the sauce with overly broad definitions, so i invented a lil logic tool

I worry sometimes that trans women are vulnerable to a kind of cortisol addiction in which public harassment becomes affirming to one's identity. That way lies total insufferability.

03.03.2026 00:07 β€” πŸ‘ 282    πŸ” 21    πŸ’¬ 6    πŸ“Œ 0

Re ally makes you think

03.03.2026 00:55 β€” πŸ‘ 64    πŸ” 4    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

this is so chilling. i know there is so much going on in regards to trans kids, none of it good, but this escalation sent a chill up my spine. it's so cruel

02.03.2026 23:17 β€” πŸ‘ 52    πŸ” 14    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

if i am being unreasonably blunt, most trans literature that got described as "trans literature" could have more productively been a slightly bitchy tutor gig at a shibari bondage workshop & had done with it. ofc that's just what i think. but perhaps the same is true of all women and femmes........

02.03.2026 23:59 β€” πŸ‘ 32    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

outsider literature around the queer scene tends to be less directly didactic and more generally fabulistic. the books people talk about are essentially fabulist, presenting moral lessons indifferently, not at all, or entirely through little passion plays

02.03.2026 23:57 β€” πŸ‘ 28    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

so one of the characteristic pieces of diction marking literature as part of the 2010s "trans lit" scene is the didactic mode: characters are more or less constantly being taught or learning things. the farther you get from college, the weirder this gets as a vibe

PANEL 1: The IMPORTANT PUNDIT is standing on a soapbox with a megaphone on the street. One or two people are watching. He motions with his thumb behind himself.
PUNDIT: Hello! WHAT IF Mattie had all of "her" skin ripped off in one big piece like a clementine?
PUNDIT: This is "its" house by the way!

PANEL 2: MATTIE, sitting on her couch with a book. The voice from the megaphone comes from outside.
VO: What if someone did that. Just if anyone has a big knife, for doing the thing I talked about. I'm just wondering aloud!

PANEL 3: MATTIE leans out the window, yelling.
MATTIE: Get bent, asshole!

PANEL 4: Back on the PUNDIT. everyone is raising a knife of some sort.
PUNDIT: Can you believe that language?
PERSON IN CROWD: SO uncivil.
PERSON IN CROWD: Let's go up there with our blades
