Phil Lyman Announces Candidacy for Utah’s 3rd Congressional District
Former State Representative Challenges Federal Overreach, Pledges to Defend Rural Utah's Economic Future and Restore Government Transparency

BLANDING, UT (March 5, 2026) – Phil Lyman today officially announced his candidacy to represent Utah’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, launching a campaign focused on ending federal overreach, defending Utah's right to develop its own natural resources, and restoring transparency to government on the issues that matter most to families in Utah’s 3rd Congressional district.

“Utah is at a crossroads," said Lyman. "We need representation in Washington that understands the delicate balance between our thriving urban centers and our vital rural communities. I am running for Congress to restore transparency to our government. Utahns deserve to know exactly what is happening behind closed doors.”

Lyman, a Certified Public Accountant, business owner, former Utah State Representative, and former gubernatorial candidate, is building his campaign around three core principles:

Transparency in Government: Rural communities generate millions in tax revenue but often get shortchanged on infrastructure investment. Lyman will fight to change that. "As a CPA, I know how to follow the money," Lyman said. "Rural Utah deserves its fair share, and Washington needs to stop making backroom deals that lock up our land and kill our economy."
America First Principles for Natural Resources and Economy: Utah should control its own resources. Washington bureaucrats should not. That means defending coal, oil and natural gas jobs, stopping federal land grabs, and proposing common-sense solutions. "We will work with Federal agencies to develop reliable power and open up our public lands," Lyman said.
Peace Through Strength: Real national security means energy independence. Lyman will fight to bring rare earth mineral processing back from China to rural…

This is not entirely surprising, given how things are shaking out with the new congressional district map. Moore was likely to stick to northern Utah, Maloy in southern Utah and Kennedy what was left. That left Owens in the new district that Democrats have been rushing to run in. #utpol #Utah
