An energy transition in the Global North which is dependent on expanding extractivism will entrench ecological injustice.

Red Muqui, a collective of 32 orgs in Peru, has published a position statement setting out the need to look beyond the energy transition and build a post-extractivist future 👇

screenshot of text::"The United Nations instituted International Women’s Day (IWD) in 1975—or so the official story runs. Few remember not only that the origins of March 8 lie in the history of the international workers’ movement, but that it was the socialist movement in the United States that first launched the idea of a day devoted to women’s rights centered on working-class women. In fact, the Socialist Party USA first established a day of education and action around women’s rights called “Woman’s Day” in 1908, and the following year U.S. socialists held demonstrations in several cities to demand women’s suffrage. In 1910, German socialist Clara Zetkin proposed the transformation of the U.S. Woman’s Day into an international day of action—International Working Women’s Day—which, in 1914, started being celebrated on March 8. Three years later, on March 8, 1917, Russian women workers took to the streets in St. Petersburg, organizing a strike to demand bread and peace. It was the beginning of the Russian Revolution."

We don’t have access to the huge resources that the right can throw at elections, and this is a good thing. We have to build things from the ground up and can only rely on actually winning people over.

People like Trump only win because of low turnouts, voter intimidation/suppression/disenfranchisement, apathy, false information, false promises and the weakness of electoral opposition. Those victories are built on sand.

Nice work Greens. Effective grassroots organising has the long-term benefit of establishing an actual political base as opposed to temporary and unreliable support built on grievance and hate, or victories engineered through political tricks and misinformation.

Does anyone know of books about abolishing the police that are focused on the UK police instead of the US police?

Immigration Enforcement raids at the highest level in UK history Record number of arrests and raids of illegal workers across the UK including 187 raids in Northern Ireland leading to 234 arrests.

Once again tapping my sign: ICE exist in the UK 🚨 They have had arrest powers since 2000. This government - not a hypothetical future one - is working harder than ever before to raid homes and businesses.

The Black Feminist Collective That Gave Us Identity Politics The Combahee River Collective’s 1977 statement reshaped the politics of the Black left and beyond.

“Overcoming difference is not the same as washing it away. Political solidarity is a recognition that we have a mutual interest in organizing together to create a political force that can change the conditions that we all suffer from, even if that suffering looks different based on social position.”

Decided in this moment to reread some Galeano. First page: “The more freedom is extended to business, the more prisons have to be built for those who suffer from that business.”
