Re-reading your post and not sure this qualifies as โ€œhistoric complementโ€.

Worked on this over 10 years ago. The property is owned by the city and retention of the heritage building was a condition of the RFP/long term lease. The YWCAโ€™s offices are in the heritage block. svn-ap.com/project/ywca...

This might be a long shot but: I'm looking to speak with architects/developers who have worked on affordable housing projects that required (or got feedback to include) some type of 'historic complement' aestheticโ€”massing, materials, etcโ€”for a story. Recommendations appreciated! thanks!

Yet one more example of an industry impacted by climate change:

England's hottest summer on record produced unusually sweet apples, which bumped up the alcohol content of scrumpy (hard cider). Now, it's classified as โ€œwineโ€...taxed at a higher rate...and too expensive for producers to sell to pubs.

If you look closely, it has a fancy cantilever over the heritage building. โ€œDesignโ€!

It seems small, but the extra green space, shorter crosswalks and slower traffic make for a much safer intersection.

On a similar note, the TTC Parkdale Bus Garage stopped operating in 1966. It was demolished and turned into Sorauren Park in 1995. The super-wide curb radii on approaching streets only got rebuilt this year!

As families across the city get their children ready for daycare, families in Kharkiv wonder if their children survived a drone attack. Life next to a genocidal neighbour.

Matt Elliott: Now, Toronto has noisy pickleball games in its crosshairs. Are we becoming the City That Fun Forgot? Tending to the whims of grumblers might make for good politics in election season, but it often makes for lousy governance.

My @thestar.com column this week: after Toronto Council requested reports on potential new rules for activities like raves, jet ski riding and pickleball, Iโ€™ve got an important reminder: it is a very good thing that people are having fun in the city.

Fun is good.

Why automated metros are the future High-tech transit can be cost-effective transit. Just look at Canada.

โ€œThe politics of transit construction are โ€˜all about minimizing disruption. That mentality leads to expensive choices.โ€™โ€

The U.S. only has to look as far as Canada for an example of how to build transit, via @benschneider.bsky.social.

Shawn makes a good point: the tech exists to limit the speed of e-scooters, where they travel and where they park. This tech could just as easily be applied to new cars.

Reminder to everyone working in Toronto that our bloated street cross sections are not the only way to get things done. As a comparison, recent LRT designs in Toronto are reserving 8m *just for the (2 way) guideway*.

Its a thing that Safe Parkside, volunteer advocacy group, had to file the $FIO request for these numbers. The city itself should have been using them in the fight with Ford.

Bike share revenue is up over 30% compared to last year, and now has close to 300k unique customers. That is 10% of the population of Toronto! I also think that their internal forecasts are a little pessimistic pinning 2025 rides at 8.1 million. I forecast closer to 8.3M when the year is over.
