It closes an important gap imo, in games where it fits. But even where yellow paint specifically makes no sense, visual hinting is really important.

Environment designers ignore that at base, so we get yellow paint.

Yellow paint, or other high-contrast and visibility colours, exist as safety aids in the real world, put in place by local authorities.

It's not a (purely) dumb accommodation for gamer vision in any setting where such an authority may reasonably exist - like in FFVII.
