you dont even have to have great respect for flawed institutions to see how these unserious ppl degrade them further w/ their presence. it doesn't have to be part of a strategy. it's simple: they have contempt for the thing they're in charge of & everything they do harms the legitimacy of the thing

Something that I have been thinking about with attribution of "PhD level intelligence" or "PhD level expertise" to a machine is that it reflects an increasing trend among these AI bros and their sycophants to want the products of highly skilled training without actually doing any of the work.

So, About Those Big Trade Deals
If you read the fine print, the “concessions” from America’s trade partners don’t add up to much.
So The Truth About Those Big Trade Deals
If you read the fine print, the “concessions” Trump is so proud of from America’s trade partners don’t add up to much.

Price untethered from performance was already a problem with equity markets, but I’d be shocked if the issue hasn’t been amplified by the introduction of crypto. When huge amounts of money are pouring into purely speculative tokens even wildly exaggerated share values seem “rational” in comparison.

So many striving to be alive without living then wondering why everything feels so meaningless and unfulfilling. Outsourcing their own humanity.

Comprehensive immigration reform always fails in America because several large, critical industries—agriculture, hospitality, food service—demand access to a vulnerable and precarious workforce that can be illegally exploited. The system is not “broken.” It is working as intended.

100% same. The Will to Change is also sorely under-read imho, especially when engaging these issues of so-called “incels”, male loneliness”etc.

Yeah, I don’t think they stumbled into this. If they had been truly unaware of the subtext, I think we would have at least gotten some generic “no offense was intended” statement at this point.

The good genes/jeans pun from a rando wouldn’t automatically convey “eugenics dog whistle” for me, but I can’t see professional copywriters on a national campaign not at least realizing the possibility of that interpretation. Especially given the full ad copy and “my genes/[eyes] are blue” line.

Democrats need to get serious about court reform because Republicans keep putting flagrantly law-breaking hacks into lifetime appointments.
Shame on the Republicans who voted to confirm Bove. A deeply corrupt, deeply immoral, deeply lawless party.

You can watch this Green Beret describe this experience in his own words to @vanhollen.senate.gov, and for us, and I cried. I’m not sure how you could watch this veteran tell this child’s story and not feel all of the emotions at once.

Curious if you’d make a distinction between “sequel as a continuation of a single narrative” and “discrete narrative with recurring character(s)?” Thinking of how resistant Rian Johnson was to subtitling Glass Onion, preferring Benoit Blanc to be more of a modern day Hercule Poirot.

We need to teach people the difference between being uncomfortable and being unsafe. Because the discomfort of the safest people is endangering the most vulnerable, all day every day.

Immaculate innings are less common than no-hitters, but a lot more common than perfect games. Only about 115 total, but it gets really hard to do any type of breakdown by strike type because they didn’t reliably keep detailed pitch by pitch stats for the first few decades.

The only thing that can taint called strikes is bad umps. Yamamoto threw what should have been an immaculate inning a few weeks ago, but the ump inexplicably called a ball on the 9th strike, which wasn’t even close. And definitely a few pitchers with ump-assisted immaculate innings in the books.

Nine no-foul strikes and especially nine swing-and-miss should definitely get extra recognition, though at a certain point you get to feats so rare they don’t really need a name. Like when will we see the next “Kurtz?”

How Liberalism Sabotages Itself
Our intentional blindness to bad faith is a loophole fascists use to gain respectability and power.
"Right-wing operators in particular are groomed and trained to argue to embrace bad-faith argument as a tactic. And yet even in the Trump era, when the bad faith is so thinly veiled, liberals remain reluctant to treat it as disqualifying."
Man oh man is @brianbeutler.bsky.social right about this.
