If HP really is a character's ability to defend themselves you should be really leaning into that. Being very sad should lower your HP, some really scary thing that triggers your flight/freeze response should too, you should lose HP for a poor night's sleep. Defending a child should raise your HP.

I've lots of adventures for a system that I have never played. But I have run the adventures in another system. The beauty of the OSR. Does that count?
