I did a speedrun of the Stonehell megadungeon as a player once. It took months of IRL play, but if we weren't gunning for the bottom and playing properly it should have taken us years.

DCC's mighty deeds and James Young's Fighter/Gambit rules go a long way in addressing this feeling. I love playing fighters!

MONSTER: Atrocidon. Stats as ogre. Appear in packs of 1d3+1. Powerful lizard-hulks but effectiveness is crippled by their overriding urge for cruelty. Will *always* attack the weakest person. Will *always* go out of their way to trample a baby. Famously easy to control in this way.

Hereโs a house rule that makes light a real factor in combat by shaping initiative rolls. Bonus rule for 'dungeon scarring' for hardcore #DMs

06.06.2025 15:56 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I've done rolling for random encounters every 10 IRL minutes previously to good success. A timer with a ticking count down at the end would be fun. I'm running a timey-wimey/clock themed one shot soon and that could make for a good gimmick.
04.06.2025 20:09 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Absolutely, do it. Side based initiative is quick - pacey and efficient.

29.05.2025 05:20 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0They'd know something different was hunting them, mixing a little curiousity with fear. It would clearly demarcate a beast's territory and would really freak the players out when they see two or more Hunting Dice being rolled at the same time! 2/2
27.05.2025 20:46 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Hey thanks. Cool idea of the Hunting Die being used for individual beasts stalking their territory on a hex map. You could use coloured hunting dice for each cryptid (brown for Bigfoot, red-white swirled for the skull-golem, etc). That would help players on a meta level in lots of different ways 1/2
