In most cases more like intra-Celtic or inta-African slavery, with a low level of mutual raiding & trading, but turning into something more like ancient Rome around powerful cities & polities. Many slaves would be expensive & complex forms on unfree labour would exist alongside each other.

It seemed highly likely to me that in an extremely civilised but resource poor environment slavery would be normalised, as it has been in many human cultures throughout history, and probably surface raids, 'criminals', war captives etc, as in real history.
