Watched Sunset Boulevard on the big screen yesterday for the 75th anniversary (Fathom Events). Near the end you learn that Norma is 50 years old. I’d love to do a class on aging women in the cinema. This movie is a good example of what we think of “old” women.

They either give a blank stare and ask me what that is or they assume I’m a Dr., a gemologist, or geologist ;). So I tend not to see I’m a genealogist. Instead I say that I teach or write on historical topics. Most of the time they aren’t really interested anyway, they are just making small talk.
