Even if this turns out to be a little optimistic, this means electrifying the Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Traralgon and I think even Seymour lines is not only financially viable, it's financially reckless NOT to electrify.
It certainly blows any silly notions of hydrogen trains out of the water!
This was always only ever about surveillance
05.08.2025 06:52 — 👍 2 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0The playbook is simple & well-established if the gov actually wanted to do anything:
1) ban weapons sales & stop involvement in manufacturing while arms are shipped to Israel
2) sanction sitting members of gov
3) expel the ambassador
4) condemn
5) vote accordingly at the UN.
That would be acting.
Tweet from Amichai Stein: "The Prime Minister's Office briefed this evening that a decision has been made by the PM for a full occupation of the Gaza Strip, including operations in areas where hostages are held, and conveyed a message to the Chief of Staff: if this does not suit him, you should resign."
Israel is going to fully occupy Gaza, presumably as a prelude to full ethnic cleansing and annexation.

Sorry, choosing to remove material contained in a document that you are re-publishing, that was encoded and which describes the murder of Indigenous people, is censorship. A historian quoted in the story said they should publish.
I would say the same of any government or publisher. And have.

Back in 2023, quite a few self-aggrandising economist types, desperate to get attention from the AFR, plus the RBA & Treasury tried to tell @australiainstitute.org.au that our work showing rising excess profits were causing inflation was wrong.
Last week, the Productivity Commission ...
theracket.news appen, then they will simpry move into another area Israeli is bombing the living shit out of. If they keep going, they hit the border crossing at Rafah (which the Israelis are also bombing). They cannot go any farther, because the Egyptian government-which is, one must remember, at once an Arab state, a brutal dictatorship, and an ally of both Israel and the United States-won't let them. That makes this the start of a probable genocide, at least of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. At the hands of a country that claims not only act in my name, and whose flag bears the symbol of my people, but who claims for itself the mantle of the avengers of the Holocaust. Here's a voice:
Believe this was the first time I used the term genocide in relation to Israel’s current actions in Gaza in my newsletter. It was Oct. 13, 2023. You can’t pretend this wasn’t knowable.

"It is hard to get your head around how stupendously large an electricity user a 2-5 gigawatt data center represents.
A 5 gigawatt data center consumes on the order of 40 million megawatt-hours of electricity per year, as much electricity as the ENTIRE STATE of Nevada or Kansas!" - Jesse Jenkins

A political cartoon by Megan Herbert depicting an obliterated Gazan landscape in the background and a sundial in the foreground. The arm of the dial is depicted as the outline of Gaza. The time markers read "DO SOMETHING", "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH", "INTERVENE NOW", "TIME IS RUNNING OUT" and "TOO LATE". The shadow cast by the sundial arm has past "running out of time" and fast approaching "too late".
Killing time.

A dense crowd of protestors walking across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, waving Palestinian flags.
There were babies in prams, elderly people in wheelchairs, families, friends, organisations, unions, and a sea of Palestinian flags and keffiyehs. It was the largest and most moving protest I have ever seen. #MarchForHumanity
03.08.2025 11:06 — 👍 168 🔁 42 💬 3 📌 4Apparently a completely peaceful march across Sydney Harbour Bridge today was extremely perilous.
Yet somehow fewer people (i.e. nobody) died today than when NSW Police were asked to assist with a 95-year-old nursing home resident behaving erratically.
This is 6 weeks 'work' == planned, wanton Israeli destruction of Palestinian people's homes, for no military reason whatsoever, let alone a valid one.
If haven't looked, maybe you should.
The dark cruelty of a contrarian small press that has pledged to print history "as is" defending its decision to remove the secret code this guy used to document his murders from his diaries as "unprintable", and so censoring the destruction of a people by editing history, is just next level.
