We're lucky that our experts (at our vendor) helped write the standards, and they're like, do they have any way of using that? We're like, nope. Ok, we can do it but give them the proxy.

note: Library of Congress recommends IMF, FFV1, ProRes, MPEG-2, XDCAM with MPEG-4 listed as acceptable, but you know, most of us aren’t working with archival formats normally so I think it’s fine

Our Library requested FFV1 b/c they wanted the "standard". It's not useful to them nor really better than ProRes 4:4:4:4

We're giving the library what it requested, but also a h.264 MP4 proxy. Our unit is keeping digital/analog source, ProRes MOV & mp4 proxy. Works for Mac environments.

There's original source & LTO backup; LTO backup of produced version; my own copies (three of them, 1 offsite) of digitized source, produced versions & online produced pieces.

But I'm unusual in that I kept raw and produced; tho I haven't checked for bit rot.

Towards AP dig preservation, at work I'm managing digitizing 17K tapes from last 20 yrs.

Original media; ProRes & h264 mp4 that also go to LTO; library version & h264 mp4 that go to another location.

I'm not sure if the LTO is duplicated or not, probably no since there's always original source.

I mean my grad school backups were within 10 feet. But they saved my bacon.

I have one full archive offsite & offline; 2 local archives in media safes; all get examined annually.

1 local backup; three cloud services one with a data backup; one with a photo backup and the other with partial data.
