Where are global CO2 emissions heading?

Middle-of-the-road? But just because we have followed the SSP2-45, SSP4-60 path for 10 years, does not mean we follow it for the next 70 years.

Policy & technology have pushed the world away from the high-end, but 2.7C in 2100 & rising is not a good outcome!

First vehicle rolls off Australia’s 'newest' production line of knuckle dragging ICE polluters that we're trying to avoid as we die from heat stress, floods & fires!
Seriously Luddite territory! Is this the best we can do?
Return to the 70s!
What a joke!

It appears the UK government is not taking any steps to investigate or help investigate Israeli war crimes in Gaza.

With Russia in Ukraine, the UK is giving millions to the ICC to investigate war crimes.

Some war crimes are more acceptable than others.

‘Gobsmacking’ solar farm that could power AI data centres ‘possibly unparalleled’ in Australia or world SunCable says massive energy project proposed in NT could position Australia as global leader, but critics are concerned about scale

SunCable seems to have pivoted away from helping to push coal and gas out of power grids and instead powering big tech's persistent energy waste addiction

begging you to ask: why are we doing any of this? Is it to Build More Solar Panels or is it to protect life from the threat of fossil fuels?

Two frames. 1. Old cigarette ad with image of doctor holding pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes. My title “They don’t make ads like this any more…”. Ad says: “20697 physicians say “LUCKIES are less irritating” “It’s toasted” ‘Your throat protection against irritation against cough’ 2. Same image except doctor is holding a lump of coal instead of cigarettes, with altered copy in the same style. My text at top “…but they might as well.” Ad says: ‘The Coalition says ‘FOSSIL FUEL is good for Australia” “Just burn it. It’s cheaper than saving the planet.”’

EU 'optimistic' about breakthrough in trade negotiations with Australia A breakthrough in long-stalled negotiations over a free trade deal between Australia and the European Union could come as soon as this weekend, sources have told the ABC.

I don’t agree with many decisions by the Albanese government, but compared to a decade of coalition incompetence it feels pretty good to have an organised and careful government working at jobs like this.

On ship, one fellow in suit says “Sorry, you’ll need to upgrade your software.” Another such says “Or, we can sell you a new phone.” Third person at bow enjoying the view.

Labor can’t blame anyone else anymore. They own what they do as their legacy. A rock around their necks as they go down in history as traitors to the people who trusted and voted for them. @albomp.bsky.social #auspol.

May they get their just deserts for their betrayal of labour values.

Lewis Hobba in last week's podcast had a great point — that Labor is hedging on every issue.

They simultaneously have Bow3n out here saving the planet while Watt is out here allowing more methane processing than ever.

The risks of the AI-energy supply chain overlap Bottlenecks to scaling both industries are beginning to emerge — with copper as the "canary in the coal mine."

As I've pointed out a few times: the generative AI anxiety *competes with and sucks energy from* the energy transition, rather than serving as a sort of 'training gym' for 'building stuff'

Data centres constrain wind, solar, transmission lines etc

This is yet another good example of that dynamic:
